There's nothing wrong about the sport, I just think most AC players cannot even run for half an hour without hyperventilating.

I was looking at all the new trailers being released at E3 on youtube, even though I knew there'd be no T4. I googled it anyway because i'm always curious. "thief 4 e3 2011" .. or something.. I read that article. It was also within written just a few days ago. his speculation was offensive thus I knew a T4 announcement was invalid. I just scrolled & thankfully found a commenter detesting his every word.. saved me having to reply. we can only hope someone with such a mindset isn't on the T4 team.
I'm sorry that such an article has reached these forums. just let them announce that T4 won't be spelled Thi4f & that'll keep the mystique in check.

:o Is there a problem with that?
I would hope most AC fans wouldn't go around saying "yeah, I do some hardcore parkour"
At least, I wouldn't...

While I quite enjoy parkour (I'm an amateur, let's be clear, but even my clumsy start is more fun than any other workout I've tried), and a Thief-game could certainly crib a lot of moves from it, I really wouldn't want to see Thieves' Creed.
My favorite part of Thief was always moving slowly, being hyper-aware of my surroundings, and making strategic use of my surroundings. Parkour involves quite a lot of the latter, but doesn't leave time for tense moments ("Will they see me? Are they going to turn around a second too soon?") or even the grabbing of loot.
And while I don't think everyone should be locked into my playstyle, I wouldn't want the designers to assume that everyone plays in the [Run in!-->Grab loot!-->Run out!] pattern that a heavily parkour-oriented game would lend itself to. Having a robust climbing system is different from parkour...
As an aside, why detest the 'word' parkour?

I do often cringe a bit when I hear game developers comment that the principle issue with Thief's lack of mainstream appeal is how slowly Garrett moved. That said, if I were making a Thief game, I'd make Garrett's movement speed extremely unable. In the dark engine I think Garrett actually has four walking speeds. I love that. Add one more (double-sprint) and don't bloody touch the slower speeds, and we're good.

Hrm... How would that play out in a control scheme?
I agree with you, btw.

I'd use the mousewheel as a throttle. :)
(Which you can do in Thief 2 already, ya know!)

But (and dare I say this...) what about console controllers? And I have minimal console experience, btw...

Significant majority of the population can't run for half an hour without hyperventilating.

Let alone run...for a sixth-of-an-hour. Let alone do more than 4 nice chin-ups.
