When is someone gonna think outside the box? Make an MMO that has no levelling up, for example. Working around a stipulation like that could lead to some really creative ideas.
(

Doing it differently is one thing. Making an MMORPG that enough people will want to play for long enough? That's a whole different story. Whatever people may think about Blizzard, they sure are good at balancing carrot and stick and at creating addictive games. Is it surprising that others want to follow in their footsteps?

Get out, both of you.
What, were you being sarcastic? You're always so hyperbolically hateful, it's impossible to tell.
Or do you think the gameplay looks the same? Because if you look at the trailer close enough, you'll see that it's a third-person shooter, with tarteting reticules, a (Warhammer style, not Gears of War style) cover system, etc.
So... Still not sure what you're complaining about, if anything.

It's OK, nobody ever really knows.

Especially since I was agreeing with him...
(To qualify - the art style looks like WoW, and while the game might have third person shooter mechanics, from the small amount of gameplay footage shown, it looked like what would happen if WOW battlegrounds had Bolters. Plus the official website is banging on about the forces of order and the forces of destruction or some BS renaming of Horde and Alliance.)
Also, I'm aware that there are MMOs very different to WoW (Eve is about as far removed as you can get for example), I'm just looking forward to the day when the majority of mainstream companies that decide to make an MMO realise that reskinning WoW is not the foolproof business model it appears to be.
My personal favourite would be a first person, open world war-torn country of some sort (e.g. a Crysis kind of world) with some instanced, coop, partially-procedurally-generated missions in smaller, tighter, linear traditional-FPS levels. Basically Crysis for a combat-optional "overworld", with Left 4 Dead levels as instances.

I was referring to the ridiculous notion that Blizzard copied GW style. I mean jesus, have you people ever actually read a Warhammer rulebook? In before massive durr hurr of "it has orcs and elves, totally ripoff"

Yes, but one could argue that people who want to play WoW are
already playing WoW. You want to out-WoW WoW itself? This kinda logic only really works with SP games, where people stop playing them after a week and look for something similiar if they liked them. MMORPGs can be played for decades.

It's based on the Darksiders engine, so I'm expecting some pretty solid combat mechanics. And I've heard some very good things about it from people that have seen much more than the trailer.

Hola! I'm back from E3 and dead dog tired, but I loved every second of it. I was fortunate enough to see a bunch of great (and bad) stuff, but there is just no way I can write about everything. Help me out? Here is a list of what I saw, pick a few, let me know what insterest you the most, I'll tally and I'll write up my impressions.
The list includes:
Portal 2, Golden Eye 007, Rage, Fallout: New Vegas, Brink, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, The First Templar, Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar, Rune Factory 3: A Fantasy Harvest Moon, Dungeon Siege 3, Conduit 2, Vanquish, Fable 3, Gears of War 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Final Fantasy XIV, Rock Band 3, Pixeljunk Shooter 2, XCOM, Mafia 2, a bunch of Kintect games and more.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
What did your elf eyes see?
Ostriig on 18/6/2010 at 16:17
Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Anyone who doesn't request this above all others is a traitor to the motherforum and should be shot. New Vegas would also be interesting once DX is out of the way.
