I tried UO for all of about two hours. My god, that was not fun.
I try to think of that as EA's teenage phase. Hopefully they're coming out of it; we will see if the lure of maximising profit drags them backwards.

Well, I sure hope they are, 'cause sometimes it looks like EA could make more money with that secret to eternal youth they're sitting on.

When? If you're playing it from a modern perspective, sure it's not going to appeal to you; you've been spoiled by full 3D worlds with clear-set stories and slews of random, incoherent quests.
Back in the ol' days, when UO was king, and EQ was something that was laughed at because it was generally shit, back before the quests and the shitstorm of Third Dawn and LBR, UO was the best MMORPG around. Then again, it was one of the
only MMORPG's around.
UO is unique in that it is (or was) pure, you didn't have a bunch of dumbass quests or levels or shit, you just went out and practiced your skills, got cash, bought shit, lathered, rinsed, and repeated. It wasn't anyone's story but your own; you decided who and what you were, and could change at any time if you just felt like it.
Then again, I'm going completely off-topic here. The man who made SecROM needs to have his shit fucked up royally.

I'm not entirely sure when it was; before the samurai expansion, anyway.
And, er, my first Ultima was False Prophet, so I am no stranger a lack of full 3D worlds.
Edit: on an AMIGA. With constant disk swapping.

So you've never played Half-Life 2, the HL2 episodes or Portal? Your loss.
Nope. Never. One's gotta make a stand somewhere; and I'm positive all those companies are feeling the pinch of missing out on my $49.95.
...they are, aren't they?

You could always get a copy of HL2 for the old XBox and play that.

Well that's good. My personal first was either Quest of the Avatar or Warriors of Destiny... I forget which one, I just remember playin em on the NES. Back in the days when we were thankful our games had any music at all, lol.
I, personally, have somewhat moved on from UO, but it has a very, very special place reserved in my heart, and that won't change... ever.
