I get a email tonight from someone in Washington that has a busted alabaster shade circa 1910. Possible casualty of the quake? I'll find out, and asked him about it.

Thanks for that expression of compassion, tBM.
Having lived in Tokyo for a bit, this wasn't such a big thing for me, but we have to remember east coast people have heightened nerves compared to other humans, and like snowpocalypse last year, they take these things very seriously.

Surprised no one's started a relief fund for this latest disaster yet.

since when does colorado get earthquakes. they haven't had one since the late 1700s and this one was a 5.3 earthquake.
i also heard that they were debating whether or not the to earthquakes were related.

That image is spreading like wild fire, another forum one of its members didn't get the meaning of the image.
Was he being sarcastic? I don't know. He was from the US. :p

"Another forum" in combination with "wildfire" implies an entirely different forum, not TTLG. So I'm pretty sure she doesn't mean what you posted.
I saw that image on Facebook first. There was actually a whole collection of different minor damage people were posting, one of them was an overturned water bottle, but this one is the funniest.

Mildly impressed with xkcd's foresight, this was posted in 2010, and apparently actually happened with this quake. (

This is not a bad idea. I just subscribed to text updates for my region from the USGS (not a Twitter feed).
