"Another forum" in combination with "wildfire" implies an entirely different forum, not TTLG. So I'm pretty sure she doesn't mean what you posted.
I saw that image on Facebook first. There was actually a whole collection of different minor damage people were posting, one of them was an overturned water bottle, but this one is the funniest.
now that i think of it it does seem strange that a post directed at you would come in under 1 minute after you posted since it usually takes at least half an hour to get a reply.

but we have to remember east coast people have heightened nerves compared to other humans, and like snowpocalypse last year, they take these things very seriously.
It not so much heightened nerves, as it is we're just not used to this sort of thing. We're but spoiled, naive children here on the east coast, what with us living in an environment that doesn't feel like it could potentially kill us at any given moment.
Then 2011 came and brought with it all these snowpocanadoquakes. What else can we do but wail loudly and gnash our teeth over what fate has unwillingly thrust upon us?
And FYI, we had a goodly sized earthquake here about 4 or so years ago. It hit around 5:30AM, and was loud and sustained enough to wake me up, and wonder why the hell all my stuff was suddenly rattling on the shelves. Much like this most recent quake, we all screamed, and wailed, and cried for days on end, because...comeon...this stuff just doesn't happen here.
...cept when it does.

Yes that's the one, centered in N. Virginia.
I think you've got it backwards, because if you judge from the news reports, there was a 2.2 on the richter scale quake centered on NYC, with a series of "beforeshocks" down in virginia.
It's all about perspective.

Mildly impressed with xkcd's foresight, this was posted in 2010, and apparently actually happened with this quake. (

True story. I didn't feel it at all, but I was reading about it on Facebook a few minutes before people here (Boston) did. They actually evacuated my work because people felt the building shake. Sissies. :tsktsk:

So ... it's probably not worth starting a new thread just for a measly hurricane, but since we already have one east coast disaster thread, probably worth adding a footnote: Please be safe my East Coast ttlggas. Head for the hills if you must. Irene's comin'.
Tune in next week when a volcano blows its top somewhere around Atlantic City.

ahahaha now we get to make fun of the east coast for having shitty weather AND they can't say "oh well at least we don't earthquakes" in response
