man, that's about me. according to that i'm an assole. perhaps you're right.
Oh, what a mistake. Mea culpa. I have just returned from a 26-hours trip so my mind was off-line. Sorry.
I simply hate to see great and talented fans critizised (spelling?) by those who always whine. I didn't say you did, nor I thought about you while I was writing "assholes". I'm just pissed off by ungraithful whiners who don't deserve the work of talented people like John P. or Cyberblutch and I wouldn't like to see this happening for the third time. So, consider yourself a guy who made me think about a sad possibility. You're not guilty...yet. :ebil:

though forums exist for some reason.
And so? Does a street exist only to give some idiots a chance to play Carmageddon? No. I think we should play fair. :)

i was just curious about some things concerning john's texture work and since i don't speak english very well, i might sound too 'kind' and use too many words, sorry about that.
No problem, I'm from Poland too and my english is not perfect neither. You expressed yourself clearly. :thumb:

ähm @ JohnP.
could you change your "Replaces the original main menu background image(.bik movie file) with a higher res, custom made version" a littl bit ?... maybe you can include the thiefmodel with the cloaked arms instead and make the full "background" darker ... maybe the model too... i like your city view. cause its darker and nicer than the orignial thief main menu...but the above mentioned things would make it to "the best with *" :) thx + sorry for my english.
ps: thx for the models as well, they are very nice and great !!!

heh...this thread really seems to head wrong direction. but it's me who started it; perhaps you were right, fallen+keeper...

wrong direction ? why ? JohnP. is the only one who can decide what to do and what not. i only want to let him know how much i like his work. :thumb:

SUPER excellent work John!!!
2 minor things:
- The buckle on Garrett's arm seems to be wrong, no strap going through it, ya know.
- Garrett's eyebrow hairs seem to angle the wrong direction, like \\\ instead of /// or whatever (maybe it's just me), wheras I think they were more the correct direction in the original.
Otherwise, you are DA MAN!!! I LOVE your vast improvements, especially in the little things like your new glint and highlight. And I agree with your interpretation of eye color, it makes perfect sense! :thumb:

Did you make models for DE: IW as well, John P.? Thought I heard it.
cheese_thief on 6/7/2004 at 20:52
Yes, he did.
It's on his site.

No, I only remade textures, but it may look like I remade some models because I 'remade' the normal maps, and normal maps are what make the rather low poly models look all "round" and smooth and detailed.
Haven't gotten around to making any NPC textures for Thief: DS yet, still playing through the game. But all good things come to those who wait, as the saying goes.

The best thing about these texture packs for me, is the new look of Loot Glint, and Frob Hilight, and Garretts arms covered.
I didn't go with the covered face though - to me, the best way to hide your face in the darkness would be like a ninja costume does, but obviously they can't do this because you have to see Garrett talk, and trying to do both these things would be wierd, even though John has made a fairly good effort (with the black stuff on his face).
So I went with the big scar one.
Arms covered, scar on his face - that's the way he was in T2.
John, how do you 're-make' the normal maps?? I thought you needed the original 'high-poly' version of the model to do that.

Anyway - I have made a few high res. textures and gameplay and menu specific textures, and put them into installers that will automatically install them to your Thief: Deadly Shadows game, without any hex editing or the like on your part.
Thanks for the textures. They look much better now. :)
One thing though. As I am colourblind I have a problem with your loot/frob highlight as I don't really notice it, especially from a distance. No big deal, I uninstalled these two and now everything is fine for me. I don't reall like the original highlight, but it's better than seeing nothing at all.
Another issue is the main menu screen. Don't you think it wouold be better to draw Garrett with his head turned in the other direction, looking at the city? Always when I see Garretts face I think it is pathetic and not really fitting. Maybe this is also inspired by the first two parts where I always had the impression that Garrett should stay under the hood and should not be seen.
This way he will keep some mystery about his person, which I like much better than as it is now.
