You need to crouch and then you can just walk right through the wall by the X in the basement.

Thank you Russ, but I haven't found the basement...........
Yandros on 18/12/2020 at 03:08
It's the first area when you first enter the building.

Thank you, but can you REALLY give me big spoiler pls? I've been all over the place over and over

I've just played. It's a very nice game, although initially I abandoned it as I found the guards very irritating and I certainly didn't find “the X” but after reading this thread I had another go and playing on Normal I found the game has interesting characteristics. :D
@maga I hope this helps. (All this was on Normal difficulty).
There's a path going down the Right side of the building with a fixed iron gate straight ahead and another one on your left. That one can be opened with your lock picks.Other thoughts ... Hope I don't get told off :D
Placing your lantern in the doorway of that outside Basement gate (after you've unlocked it) prevents it automatically closing permanently when you next lockpick open the basement inner door, thus keeping open that exit.
Correction. I don't think there is a lantern. In the last few games I've played I was surprised to see a lantern in Garrett's inventory even in games I played months ago. Looking at file-dates I now see that prior to downloading this game I had also read (https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150945&highlight=lantern) this thread and downloaded the Toggleable Lantern. And then I forgot! Garrett was killed and when I reloaded I was surprised to see he now had a lantern. After downloading the Toggleable Lantern, in every game that you play, Garrett will now have a lantern, unless the author takes steps to prevent it. Very useful. I think I'll keep it. :D
The objective “Find a way into the bank” does not tick off, until you are very close to the inside of that second door (from either side). You can, should you want, enter the bank by other means and still get into the basement, as well as open the front lobby doors and walk through them, without that objective being ticked (checked), purely because you haven't been close enough to that basement inner door, even if it's open.
If you have got inside by other means, the basement can be reached by going down the inside ladder from Floor 2 and hitting the door with your sword 5 times. The lock breaks and the door opens. Sheila, the guard in the basement, who has a key to the door you just broke through, doesn't always seem to hear the noise you make. Some final loot and a secret are in the basement. If you had entered the basement via the outside doors then you'll encounter Sheila earlier.
Knocking out Gretchyn while she stands on the employee elevator outside on floor 3 was problematic if I chose to move her. As soon as I placed her elsewhere, she groaned alerting other guards and magically appeared back on the elevator, presumably now dead. I assume it's an inherent engine problem as I noticed it once before in another game. All elevators were potential health hazards (I imagine to shoulders) when going up, unless I was centrally positioned on the platform. I'm surprised employees and customers haven't sued for injuries :D
With all objectives ticked, Mission Complete doesn't come up unless you're very close to the lobby doors (from outside or inside) so you can have Full Loot and still exit and enter via other ways. With no chance to do a good deed and return Freida's ring I got rid of frustrations via a pointless self-challenge of placing all the guards (7 blue guards + 4 outside guards) in the upstairs vault, double-locking them in and disposing of the key at the games outer edge. Villagers clamoured excitedly at the outside gates, not exactly cheering but I had the illusion I'd achieved something. If William Courtemaine gets fired by the Bank Ethics Committee perhaps Teller Smythe will be promoted for his many years faithful service. Although as the bank now has no loot, there's nothing for anyone to
tell. :(

Is the path outside one of these gates????
Aged Raver on 18/12/2020 at 18:08
@maga
At the start you are near a gate that cannot be opened. If you go past the 2nd gate and on to the 3rd gate that cannot be opened, then turn left down the path at the side of the building. At the bottom is a 4th gate that cannot be opened. But next to it on your left is a gate that can be opened with lockpicks. This is the gate that later closes when you get further inside. Hope that helps :D

I don't want to be too tedious, but when I get to the 3rd gate there's only the lever that opensa the secret bank entrance. I really don't understand. Does anybody have a screenie of this path going down pls?
Aged Raver on 18/12/2020 at 19:51
The first 30 seconds of this preview shows turning down the path that I'm talking about. At the bottom there is the 4th gate that doesn't open and to the left of that is another gate that you can lockpick to gain entry to the basement of the bank. :D (

thank you for your help and kindness, and taking the time to do a video, I'm sorry i am not able to take a screenshot, but in the game I'm playing this slope does not exist. Maybe you are playing another version of the fm? Where can I get that version? Thanks again
As a matter of fact my eastwater bank file did not have the "gold" word. I now downloaded the proper file.
