I am playing a game that is almost frighteningly easy. I can't believe this got such good reviews.
Anyway, what are some games that were so easy it almost ruined any fun that might have been had if the difficulty were balanced?

you know, sometimes I dont mind playing a nice easy game, as long as other aspects, such as story, atmosphere etc are up to scratch.

Dreamfall is supposed to be so easy it's more "3d interactive story" than "game" as such. But is supposed to be earthshatteringly brilliant in every other respect (ie, the story, visuals for the time etc. I haven't played either of them and really ought to by the sounds)

My thoughts exactly.
(and I still have Dreamfall to try myself, having sat on my Steam list for over a year now)

I started The Longest Journey this weekend, but gave up after getting bored.
I had previously started the sequel Dreamfall before, and found it more engaging, but lost my progress in a system rebuild.
Both are really slow to get started, and I think that's the main problem I have with The Longest Journey. It looking like a PS1 game doesn't help matters.
Dreamfall however looks the mutt's nuts as far as I can remember.

Don't get too hyped for Dreamfall - a lot of people were dissapointed by it. Its true that its gameplay mechanics are really just filler and the story is where it's at. And, not to spoil anything, but a lot of people have issues with the way it all wraps up (Dreamfall is essentially Part 1 of a 2-part saga, which itself is Part 2 of a planned 3-part saga, with TLJ being part 1).
That said, I think it's brilliant. It's not perfect, but it does a lot of interesting things and is well worth playing.
But you really should play The Longest Journey first. Makes parts of Dreamfall have more emotional resonance. Plus, IMHO, its a great game in its own right,
Anyway, as not above, I don't mind easy if there are other elements to make it work (like in Dreamfall). But in pure-combat segments, too easy is boring. The later sections of Fallout 3, for instance, are so easy that it's just boring. Ditto with Chrono Trigger (which I'm re-playing on the DS).

That's the most common problem with difficulty in the games I play -- the situations and enemies thrown at you fall short of the attributes, weapons and abilities you've got later in the game.
Having said that, I concur with PigLick -- if the gameplay mechanics in themselves are fun and the other elements are decent, it doesn't bother me that much. In small doses, anyway.
