Oh god, they so do. Fighting the Ubersoldat was a pain in the fucking ass. You had to play cat and mouse with him around that walled-in room because he would fucking open fire on you and unlike you he's got 15937498739875 HP.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have had NOBODY ever admit this. I don't know what it is about this game, but, they must all think they will be perceived as weak or something, if they admit it is a challenge.

How can anyone say KOTOR's combat was challenging? Like every single Bioware RPG since NWN, it posed no difficulty for me whatsoever, from the first fight to the final meeting with Malak. And anyway, regardless of its challenge, the combat was really atrocious. The Dark Jedi in the Starforge went down quicker than you can say "Bioware can't design combat."
Actually, the combat is the one area of KOTOR2 where Obsidian didn't really deviate from Bioware's original design.
I never go for the melee characters, so the first KOTOR had a few good fights for me, in KOTOR 2 my 'wizard' was chopping up everything without me having to do anyhting at all.

Yep, RTCWolfenstein kicked my ass! Even those legless electric dudes could kill you much, much quicker than you could kill them. But that made it a fucking excellent game imo, a great sense of achievement whenever you downed one of the big bastards!
Conversely, I'm currently playing Prey, which is very easy - when you die, you just play a short minigame before respawning! It's a shame - the game is really fun and imaginative, but not difficult at all! Although some of the gravity/portal puzzles may stump you for a little while...

FEAR's Replica troops can fuck you up pretty badly if you don't pay attention. Conversely, I rarely have trouble with Combine troops. Might have something to do with how much damage their weapons do.
The irony is that FEAR's the one with slo-mo.

I'd say it has more to do with the fact that the AI in HL2 is not exactly great. They stand there and they shoot you. Wow. Even the supersoldiers barely put up a fight.

I always used to play most games at their "hard" difficulty. I wouldn't go for "very hard"/"insane" whatever (if it existed) because I'd take 'em at their word on that one, but medium was usually just too easy.
An exception was The Dark Project, with its changing objectives, which I intentionally played on "normal" and then replayed on "expert".
Serious Sam cured me of starting games on "hard". It was fine for about the first third of the game. After that I found myself reloading far more than I wanted to be. I think the last third of the game was frankly too difficult to be fully enjoyable, and the last couple of levels were absolutely nightmarish.
It may have been an extreme case, but it permanently put me off second-guessing what the developers meant by their difficulty level names.

So there are people that beat Serious Sam on something other then normal difficulty??

I think I did, it's been a while since I played it though. Anyways, the harder difficulties were so obviously meant for co-op play.
I find nearly all modern games easy - especially shooters. I don't know, if I am just good playing, but I nearly always have to amp it up to the hardest difficulty, which in lots of cases can become ridiculously annoying (eg, Halo, where you practically pick enemies out one by one and wait for your shields to come back).
Then again, some the first games I played was Nethack and ADoM and this was when I didn't really understand English, so it's natural most stuff feels easy. :laff:

I tend to just play games through on normal the first time nowadays because I dont want to have to spend all my time reloading quicksaves.
For me HL2 hit the difficulty level perfectly, I felt challenged enough but almost never had to reload.

A friend of mine beat it on hard, abusing the knife. Whenever he was attacked by a swarm of skeleton thingies(remember that part where you were attacked by a swarm of skeleton thingies?;)) he ran ic circles so they didn't hit him with their projectiles and attacked whenever he got the opportunity to. The knife was actually very powerful, so they died quickly. I don't know how he did the final levels, though.
