Have you tried drinking larger quantities of water? Personally I only get this problem (though with appetite, not real hunger) when I'm not too busy.

oh I keep myself plenty hydrated. I chug like 3 cups of tea/coffee a day, eat a bunch of water-full fruit, and also gulp water down all the time, so that's definitely not thirst.

3 cups of beverages containing caffeine, a diuretic which causes you to lose more water from your kidneys.

I'd normally find an academic journal rather than something like this, but it's late and I'm tired.
When you get the hunger cravings, try drinking a glass of water and waiting 20 minutes (it can take this long for your body to catch up with quenching thirst). Just try it.

No, it wasn't about thirst anyway, it just works (sometimes) to create a feeling of satiation (so not only a sip once in a while but two glasses in a row or something... and probably water as well, no coffee or strong tea). It didn't work overly well for me either, but one could try anyway.

YOu might also like to try eating foods with a low glycaemic index, since foods containing simple carbs tend to be broken down quicker, then whatever isn't immediately useful, gets converted to storage, leaving you hungry again soon after.

You know that never really worked for me, much like stuffing myself with nutrition-less food (i.e. celery sticks). Then I get this weird sensation of both being full (bloated?) and hungry at the same time (stomach growling and all). It's kind of bizarre :p
