That certainly makes sense if you can get all of the speakers to play unlike the early days of surround sound.

With Zxr soundblaster it is easier, just active with Creative ALchemy it's ready to use EAX in-game.
And i don't find a real difference between Hardware acceleration with EAX, and OpenAL (software) acceleration with openAl reverberation.
