Too scared of the unions, but knows the strikes are unpopular. More generally, Ed Milliband is a fine example of mediocrity, borne out of convictions gained by reading books rather than having experiences. However he's an extreme part of a trend rather than a one-off.

That was hilarious. I almost feel sorry for him.
And what's wrong with the Tories? They haven't create one total fiasco and tbh I'm impressed that they've actually listened to the people who know and scraped that ridiculous health plan.

And also selling our forests. Good that they can at least admit they get things wrong.
They're been asked to block News International buying BSB, and also to award the train building contracts to Bombardier, despite that it would be illegal to do so and they'd be dragged through the courts. At least, that's what they say.

The pesky thing with things with international trade laws is you can't just give all your contracts to your own companies.
However, countries like (everywhere but the UK) cheat and make sure their rules while appearing neutral, massively favour their own companies. See non-US companies trying to get contracts for Iraq reconstruction. The "Security clearance" restrictions basically made it impossible for any non-US company to win a contact.

Sure, France manage to do it, so it's not even an EU thing. Apparently Vince Cable was tearing his hair out (hoho) because the contract Labour drew up was quite specific so that Siemens would win it instead of Bombardier. He said they're looking into how to wrangle this to UK business favour in the future. Try getting a non-French company to build a nuclear power station in France (good luck).
We've seen this in recruitment too - one of the postdocs we wanted was from Russia, and the Prof basically wrote the job description with EXACTLY his set of skills being required, to make sure we got him.

It certainly was good of them to listen to their junior coalition partners for once :p
