I see. Seems like a good quality to avoid cliches of the "IRL Punk" culture then.

I said "aesthetic". Punk invariably seems to mean SPIKY HAIR, GOGGLES AND WACKY LEATHER CLOTHES WITH LOTS OF BUCKLES.
Only if you're a dumbass scene kid. Steampunk has had varying styles (i.e. compare Thief to FF6, or FF9, or Arcanum, etc.) before the scene kids got bored and decided to ruin a perfectly good idea with their faggotry.

Yeah, scene kids ruin everything. Just the other day, a whole bunch of them were making fun of my hand drawn picture of Aerith I've got safety pinned to the back of my kick ass leather jacket.
Also they hate my Propaghandi stickers on my bookbag.

Okay.
Does that change what I saw? Or have seen?

You're basing your opinion of steampunk on the current phenomenon of fashion, subculture and generally looking stupid that is the "scene" these days. I guarantee you 90% of these fucks have never read The Difference Engine.

I'm saying that I think they generally mishandle "steampunk" by going for that generic goggles and leather shit... aren't we saying the same thing? I dislike the more "generic" aesthetic of steampunk as compared to more compelling individual visions like Thief.
