I am passionate about Thief like all of the rest of us here. We all have our ideas about what made Thief and Thief 2, and maybe Thief 3, so special. There are some points most of us seem to agree on, mostly in relation to some design decisions with Thief 3.
Anyhow, I wonder;
To Eidos Montreal:
Do you know of this website? do you know of this fanbase?
If you do - do you *appreciate* the depth of passion we have here for Thief?
If you do - do you take what is said seriously?

I am just totally blown away that a forum website like TTLG could have so much influence with a corporation such as Eidos. It does not cease to amaze me that Eidos is actually giving a damn to the point that one of their team members has become a TTLG'er who is actually reading our suggestions! (Of course, whether or not EM really ends up implementing those suggestions may be a different story. ;) )
Digi and Saam; if someone would have told you ten years ago this would happen, would you have believed them?

ken levine and his staff showed up on the Bioshock forum as well. It does not appear the community had any influence whatever on Bioshock, seeing how it turned out. I suspect the same for Thiaf. EM is just taking care that we do what we would have done all along: speculate and spread the word. since thief is so important for us and the story never gets explained in trailers or screenshots they have us as their "100% guaranteed" customers for day 1. If we don't like the game nobody will care since we have been part of the hypemachine until the very end and our voices won't be heard by much. Bioshock sold very good no matter how much fans raged about its gameplay and lackluster story(or copy of a story). It's a win-win situation for EM, why would they NOT do it. let's stay realistic here, please.

Sounds more pessimistic to me. I prefer to continue to wear my rose-colored glasses until
when and if EM's T4 dashes all of my expectations and disappoints me. EM seems to be going to great lengths to consider our opinions; even to the point of electing one of our TTLG'ers to be liaison with their rep from the T4 team. Maybe someone at EM got the message about TDS being such a dismal failure and really does want to keep their fingers on the pulse of the die-hard Thief fans. One can only hope.

EM changed one controversial thing in DX3 (that we know of) because of the fans' reaction, so I think we can count on them to take our opinions seriously.

I haven't been following Deus Ex 3 development at all (criminal I know). What are you referring to?

I'm not pessimistic, just saying you should not expect too much in that regard.
If they change something in their plan because of fan reactions, they better think it through to the end, not that they create new inconsistencies. I'd rather have a developer stick to their guns, be proud of their decision and give us reasons here. that would be much more ace than just: we are looking into it - considering it - whatever.
Another thing that made me cautious about the input we will have on the game is the eidos forum. They created threads about things they should already know about .... even in the early stages of development...

I'm not sure it was revealed what that thing was exactly or I just don't remember right now. :erm:
mothra, I think they just did that to see what fans think. The game is still in the early stages, so if the fans' opinion differs, a lot, from their's they can still make some changes, if they can or want to.
From what we know so far, it seems to me that they know what to do with DX3, so hopefully they'll make a good Thief game too. And they are in contact with people who worked on the games, so for now I trust them. We'll see if that stands after the first batch of info is released.

By implementing regenerating health and a cover system? I've got very low expectations for DX3.
