Another thing that made me cautious about the input we will have on the game is the eidos forum. They created threads about things they should already know about .... even in the early stages of development...
The forum moderator created those threads... I don't think she has any involvement in the game development.

bad internal communication then :)
anyways, I'm glad they decided to start it and I can assure them my interest. I will even play it if it aint a great thief game as long as it is a GOOD one :)

I get the feeling most of us will play T4, regardless. Same thing happened with TDS in that even after a lot of TTLG'ers posted their disappointment in the game a lot of us who hadn't played yet still went ahead & played it anyhow in spite of the complaints & disappointments of our fellow Taffers. I know I did. Just had to see for myself.

I haven't been following Deus Ex 3 development at all (criminal I know). What are you referring to?
It wasn't specified. René stated some time ago that one of the more controversial aspects regarding DX3 has been altered following community feedback, but that the change couldn't be disclosed at the time due to press exclusivity agreements or somesuch. Since then, the local fauna has speculated that it would be in relation to either the stealth/cover system or health regen.

Dia, ten years ago things were much different... it was pretty common for LGS designers to post on our forum, and they had no publisher nor a "community manager" type person standing in their way. It was a direct line from the fans to the people making the games. Them being in touch with the fans and supporting the community are the reasons why we got Dromed, and a T2 that tried to address people's feedback from Thief 1 (fewer undead/monsters, bigger missions, more gadgets, the return of Viktoria, etc.)

I'd rather have a developer stick to their guns, be proud of their decision...
Then we don't matter, and they could just do magazine interviews, video interviews, articles, ads, and other marketing techniques instead of saying they are watching and reading these forums, and asking people for their personal opinion. And why would they "waste" so much time reading our extensive threads if it didn't mean something?
Dia: Not only since I won't be able to play the game, but because of my usual caution, I will let those who buy the game and comment on it tell me whether I should spend my money. If I buy it, it will be because I have reason to believe they deserve my money on some significant level.
infinity on 12/5/2009 at 18:09
Are you really that reserved about buying it Jtr?
nicked on 12/5/2009 at 18:17
I know I certainly am.
I don't believe for a second that anything posted by fans on the internet will have any serious impact on the game design; that would be incredibly naive. It's 99% marketing and whipping up hype.
jtr7 on 12/5/2009 at 18:17
No. The game doesn't exist, so I can't say, yet, infinity.:)
Also, it really is a matter of finance and not having a machine that could ever play it. Not a lack of confidence, just real life hindrances. I would, however, buy the game if my friends here enjoy it well enough, even if I can't play it.
nicked: Then they are wasting their time and energy. All we are doing is talking about it--negatively. They don't need us to to recruit a new audience that will make them more money than all the previous games combined. Listening to us will cut their profits, and they are paying way too close attention. It would be a real shit move if they are just screwing with us, without any sincerity whatsoever. Bad Effin' PR.
infinity on 12/5/2009 at 18:19
That's too bad jtr! Surely, you could scrape out the finances over the next few years to build a new system...
