Eidos Montreal... so, what are their merits? - by SLIEZER

As I said in another thread, i'm reserving any judgement for Eidos Montreal until I see a reason to be wary. If Thief 4 were being made by Ion Storm Austin, I would be as cynical and skeptical as many others around here, having seen their par product.
I consider Thief 1 & 2 to be of excellent quality, where as Deadly Shadows to be of average quality, not up to the standard for the franchise the first two games set for the series.

Publishing is not the same as developing. I see so many new companies springing up claiming they're working on the next AAA title, yet it looks like most of the work's been spent designing the corporate logo. Having said that I wish Eidos Montreal all the best.

I think it would be better to look at what are the merits of the key employees.
This is kind of what I was trying to find out about in (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126594) this thread. As the company itself is new, it's the actual people you should take a look at. As it is now, however, we hardly have any people assigned to the project yet.

Fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms.

So, is anyone here contemplating applying for one of the positions? It's got to be a dream job for many of us, just to be involved with just about any aspect of the game. Heck, if it paid my bills, I'd mop the floors in the studios.

Hmmm....I wonder if they will need any beta testers?

I was just about to say the same - must be plenty of hard-working coders and designers in this community who would make a great addition to the team.

You weren't here for the last year-and-a-half in the "No...not another will there be a Thief 4 thread...", Cobak. I'm glad you noticed the open job positions, too.
The second team that was to work on
Thief 4 never formed. After Stephane D'Astous put up the "T" teaser to recruit for the
Thief 4 project, a few upper positions were filled. But after a couple of months (or less), the positions reopened and I theorized those people may have been absorbed into the
Deus Ex 3 team, since that is the only game Eidos-Montreal has ever made, and it was rolling along well.
It's only been less than a month since they finally had a "Proof of Concept" for their masters' approval. They got it and began to work on advertising, interviews, videos, the announcement, conferences, and so on. So it is all new, and the team still has not yet formed. I also wondered if the
Deus Ex team was going to move over to the
Thief team if EM couldn't get the full second team they want, and wondered how far the few people who were hired over a year ago got with it before changing jobs.

I hope they will be able to do it online, like some other companies have. I know of more than one person who'd like to be part of that!

Being new does NOT have to be bad... in fact, in our case, it should be a plus. The company is pressured to prove itself capable of dealing with the hardcore fans while attracting the new: they must make a GOOD game to survive in this business (its cutthroat). Of course they are playing a big hand in a risky gamble taking Thief on straight out, but it could quite possibly answer our prayers for a true sequel. The pressure to do well and succeed can lead to some amazing things! The best the TTLG can do right now is to be careful but also optimistic and supportive of EM.
On a side note, new does not mean inexperienced by any means. For all we know EM was created to attract the créme de la créme of the gaming industry. Time will tell us all we need to know. :thumb:
