Eidos Montreal... so, what are their merits? - by SLIEZER

CORRECT! Thank you!
I do have to say, though, that what's good for them, and good for gamers, is totally irrelevant to those few who want a respectable
Thief game that actually deserves the name. Change it
too much then please don't call it
Thief. Build on the foundation that exists, then change is exciting. If the game is changed too much, the division between fans will be even more ludicrous and painful to behold, far beyond the likes which we have already seen. Give the new game new pronouns all around and there will be almost no problems among us. We won't have people coming in here who can't relate to our
Thief experience, and vice-a-versa because of the deviation. EM making a new game is EM's business, and doesn't mean a thing to us (I'm not including gamers that buy anything put out, or close to it)--except it's a
Thief game, and that's where we come in.

It's got to be a dream job for many of us, just to be involved with just about any aspect of the game.
Then again imagine the nightmare it could be if you were a hardcore thief fan and the game was taking a direction you absolutely couldn't stomach, but you moved far away from home(possible to a different country) so you're kinda stuck ;)

People would get fired or quit like last time.:(

Do they have any clue what so ever what Thief is......:p They'll have a team with no clue. I'm being facetious.....I think.
jtr7 on 15/5/2009 at 04:36
Heh heh. And who else but us can give them a clue? We can lead the horse to water, but can we make it drink?

I think two people have said already more or less what I was thinking.:)
(Reliance and jtr7.) We're basically in the "wait and see" mode with Eidos Montreal.
Although, judging by the interviews with Stephane, it almost sounds like he's never even played thief!:o Maybe we need to force ask an interviewer to ask Stephane this question: Have you ever played Thief: The Dark Project, Thief 2: The Metal Age, or Thief: Deadly Shadows? (Or for that matter, has any of the people who work for EM played any of the games?) This could be telling evidence of their ability to make a game we like. Then again, they may just suprise us (is it possible to learn from the game without even playing it? I guess reading the Dark Wiki?)

Yes, most of them have played with the Deus Ex and Thief games and most of them are fans too. That's why they left their jobs at other companies to move to Eidos Montreal to work on these games. And the devs are in contact with people who were working on the originals. Sheldon Pacotti is helping out with DX3's story and EM is still in contact with people from the Thief teams, though they don't have anybody working for them full time. (Yet? Maybe some of them will make a move and apply for a job there.)
And I think it doesn't have to mean too much what the devs were working on before, it's not necessarily a good or a bad thing if they worked on this or that game. For example Harvey Smith worked on DX1, DX2 and Blacksite: Area51 too. We all love him because of DX1 and have bad feelings about him because of DX2 (or hate, depending on your opinion about game).
We should judge EM when we know enough about the games.

Ah, that is reassuring.:)

They have no released games, just Deus Ex 3 and Thief 4 in production.
Yes. As a studio, we are new, however we are made up of experienced people from all over who have worked on some massive projects with
some similarities at other Montréal companies and truely across the globe. I think our GM Stéphane says it a lot but it's true that people are extremely excited to be working on these two games so we are luckily attracting some very good people.
It all remains to be seen if we will deliver, sure, but we have an extremely good foundation for both projects.

If you haven't already, you should really contact this good fellow:
(
http://ttlg.com/forums/member.php?u=32519) Raen
That's David Siegel, a co-lead and driving force behind (
http://www.thief2x.com/default2.asp) T2X as well as an experienced professional designer with credits on Thief: Deadly Shadows and Duke Nukem Forever (don't damn him for that last one :p).
If you don't know who he is... well, you really should. Go do some research. :thumb:
