Mr. Tibbs on 12/9/2013 at 04:13
A first-person action game developed from ex-2K Marin and Gearbox developers inspired by roguelikes, immersive sims, and H. P. Lovecraft.
'Unearth ancient secrets and find your way to freedom!
Sneak, fight, and explore strange worlds!
Invoke mystical powers to augment your play style!
Randomly generated levels provide fresh challenges and opportunities!
Unlock shortcuts to jump directly to deeper dungeons!'
The beta's available now for $15 from the developers site, full release coming October 21. It's also on Greenlight. It looks pretty awesome.

Your title made me think of a creepy and moody survival horror. The actual trailer makes it look like a lighthearted, actiony and crappily-animated shooter.
Which one is it

As a concept this sounds great, but the gameplay video didn't really impress me much. Still there is a lot of potential there - I hope the game will feature crafting to strengthen the survival aspect (the player seemed to be picking up various ingredients in the video, so I guess crafting system is planned) and perhaps a way to research the slain creatures to get some bonuses against them (kinda like SS2). Ability to collect the mythos books and learn spells from them can be probably taken for granted.
In any case I was always surprised how few games based in Lovecraftian universe were made so far - only CoC: DCotE, some shitty mods and some kind of F2P online RPG that probably died years ago. Seeing a new game coming up is certainly good news.
Edit: And there was Prisoner of Ice too actually...

And Shadow of the Comet. And Alone in the Dark. And Quake. And Necronomicon...

And there's always games out there that are creatively bankrupt enough to basically be Lovecraft with the serial numbers filed off, like Amnesia and Eternal Darkness.

This game looks really bizarre, and somehow quite fun and interesting at the same time. I think some drugs were involved during development though. I approve.

An intriguing notion for a game. I do dislike the art style quite a bit though.
There's just too many lo-fi FP games now. I was neat when Minecraft did it. Cubeworld doesn't have textures as such so that's fine too. But even if you're pretty basic looking you can still have nice textures (as countless Minecraft mods have proven).
They're probably not artists and that's the thing, but I hope they spruce that up a bit

I remember a video someone posted about this months ago.
It gave me a nostalgia kick anyway. I was actually reminded of Ultima Underworld.
If it gets awesome reviews after it comes out, I'll think about it, but my backlog is long enough as it is...

Beta is available now, so I picked this up. It's fun, definitely has a rogue feel to it (and of course, Minecraft). Levels are randomly generated, so even within the game if you die during a level, you have to do that level over again but it's unique (did that make sense?). Lots of exploration (both vertical and horizontal) to find items and get to your goal. I only played for an hour or so, but I hope the types of items gets a bit more varied, it seems like there were only 4-5 on the first level that repeated over and over. Good creepy ambient sounds. I'm not exactly sure why they went the Lovecraftian route, maybe they just didn't want to put that much effort into an original story and focus on gameplay, but I guess it works. I need to play some more to see if it keeps my interest or just gets overly repetitive, but what I saw so far I liked.
