Now, one thing I think I can say (and I’m not promising this because all things are ultimately decided by the IT gods) but it is our plan to make the “gold” version of the game available a bit early to those in the beta and those who pre-order will also likely get it a bit early. We hope to start pre-loading Elemental onto machines early to mid next week to reduce strain.

It's out!

I'm playing it! First impressions are that it needs more work. The performance is strangely bad apart from anything else. As for gameplay, they've obviously tried something quite different from the basic Civ pattern, but that makes it a little harder to pick up and play (you have to learn stuff). Somehow I don't think this will keep me from minecraft for very long, but I can see it maturing into something good once modders have had a chance to get their fingers all over it.

It is at its core a good but unpolished game, I'm suffering from the performance bugs and crashes too.
interface is a bit messy too, but it's wonderful seeing your town expand beyond just one tile.
Even the Multiplayer button is in the menu, but the functionality is not in the game yet.

Tenkahubu's post, the PC gamer article, and the RPS forum thread, were all posted before the Day 0 patch was available. One of the consequences of them releasing the game earlier than the intended "Day 0". (Which was itself a consequence of retailers breaking the street date).
I had similar thoughts to Tenkahubu, as like him the game was extremely sluggish. This was a bug many people reported, where the game slowed to a crawl whenever any city was on screen (which was fairly common, obviously). In the day or two between the early release for beta players and the Day 0 patch I was not having much fun with the game. I complained (rather civilly, I hope) in a thread on the official forums.
However, since the Day 0 patch I started a new game and am really enjoying it. Performance is much better, balance is better... I'm just having fun. (You do need to start a new game, though, for the Day 0 patch to take effect - loading my previous game still ran like shit.) I've played for several hours and only took a break for a bit to take care of some chores and post here. Now I'll head right back in.

day 0 patch hasn't fixed all the performance issues yet.
I'm stilll sticking with it though, since A: I already payed for this game and B: It's the closest thing to MOM these days.

Time to start again! And I'd just killed off that smug Kraxis guy too. Ah well.

So is it true they already have an expansion lined up for february next year?
