I am playing Elevator Mission in Samurai (expert) mode and am stuck near the end. I have three out of four objectives: sword, hand of glory, and valuable item (sceptre). I am missing the "investigation of the Keeper." Here is my status.
I have been underwater to the frogbeast room and gone back up to a room with a lock on a pedestal. I do not have the key to open that lock. I have traveled the upper water passage to the ape beast by the gate but can't open the gate. I am guessing that the switch to the gate is in the lower passage. I can find the switch easily, but I run out of air at the switch and can't swim back. I understand from another thread that breath potions are available somewhere, but I cannot find any of them. I also see a blue trunk underwater that I cannot open. Finally, the second balcony in the open area above the Star of David has double doors that don't open.
I would appreciate receiving spoilers on any or all of the above problems. I think that the main thing I need is the breath potions, and the rest may sort itself out. I've been playing this a week, 7.5 hours of game time, and I just want to get out!
As has been noted in other threads, this is an incredible mission, but it is too difficult and masochistic. :D BTW, I have done all of this so far with no help but one exception: the small switch in the Mage's area, which I couldn't find for the life of me. The Keeper set me straight on that one (thanks). :)

Well, it's been a while, but I think that blue chest in the water has the breath potions - just float over it and pick the lock. Also, to go faster underwater go diagonal, and if possible, move along the bottom a bit because I guess your feet get some traction there. But going diagonal will help the most.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I tried that some time ago, and picking doesn't work for me, then or now. I float above the chest or right in front of the lock. The chest is highlighted. Neither lock pick causes the lock "handle" to budge. There is no sound either. I have tried several times from different positions, and nothing happens.
I have also tried all the keys in my inventory. Perhaps I am missing a key, the one associated with the lock on the pedestal above the frog room. Could that be it? Do you remember how to get that key?
Thanks for the water advice. Diagonal relative to what? The axis of the cave passage? Vertical or horizontal motion? I'm having trouble visualizing that. :)

Hmm, then I don't know about that lock. To go diagonal, just be pressing forward and strafe sideways at the same time. Aim yourself when doing that so that you're going the direction you want, which can be tricky underwater but it helps

I cannot complete the mission without at least one breath potion. So, without having a way to get into the blue chest, I am hopelessly stuck. I have only one speed potion, and that doesn't last long enough to get me back to air from the switch. It looks like I may have to give up on it. Bummer. :( I am curious KMG, did you also play in Expert (Samurai)? Maybe the FM author decided that Samurai don't need breath potions. I e-mailed him at the address given in the Darkloader screen but it bounced. :(
If anyone else has experience with that blue chest, please tell me how you got in and what skill level you were playing. Thanks.

I can't remember what I played it on now..., it's been a while. Sorry to hear you'll quit, that's too bad. You could open up the mission in dromed and place a few breath potions there, then optimize it again and continue...

Thanks. :)
The problem is, I have never used Dromed. I know I need to learn it, but I think this is not a good enough reason or worth the effort right now. I'll save the game and come back later, either when I get more help or learn dromed, whichever comes first.
I am guessing the last objective must be obtainable through that gate past the water, possibly with 3-4 more hidden switches and a few more goosy AI to kill. I've basically done all that before -- the mission is a little repetitive in that regard. :) I already killed the ratman guarding that gate with no problem. I've gone through the mission so far disabling or killing almost every AI (56 backstabs, 41 KO's) and receiving only 3 damage points, which were unavoidable, from an alerted fire elemental I had to whack with the sword. :)
I would still like to compelete it and am waiting for the ultimate hint, unless this is a bug nobody else has seen.
Thanks for all your kelp, KMG. :) Does anybody else know about this chest problem?? Has anybody finished it in Samurai mode?

It seems this is the thread that started the rumor about missing breath potions in the underwater section of Elevator Mission T1 V1. The rumor is the chest with the breath potions cannot be opened on the harder difficulties. This seems to be false: Vlad Midnight (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44995&page=5&p=1078172&viewfull=1#post1078172) posted in 2004 he was able to complete the mission on Expert/Samurai.
There are actually two chests in the same underwater cavern: One is blue, easily visible and cannot be opened. The other has a wood texture and is hidden in complete darkness behind the rock pillar. This wooden chest can be opened and contains the breath potions.

The blue chest under water can be opened. Find "JIS Key" in a well in version 2.0. In the original version, the JIS key is on a ledge above the door close to the well.

Unna, That's where that key is in the V2 mission, but in the V1 version it's in an impossibly difficult location,⁵ no chance of finding it without cheating that is.
