Well, I have finished Mission 8.:D Now I am a long, long way into mission 9. Which means that, contrary what I thought, Mission 9 is not just a tribute to friends. It is huge and is a real mission. Unfortunately the objectives are in Japanese, and they (both objectives and bodies) keep piling up. Unfortunately, I am getting into one of those save game problems where the frame rate is becoming very choppy and each time I reload a saved game it gets worse. I just hope I can finish it before it gets totally out of control.
Old Man and Melissa, I am sorry, but I have been through so many puzzles and traps this evening / morning that my brain is totally fried, and I am not sure where you are. I can only say this. It is always something, like
killing some AI, hitting something with sword or BJ, finding a switch or two, shooting something with an arrow, or all of the above.
:cheeky: Yes and no. I think, if the readables every get fully translated into English, I might give it a go again, just to know what they say! Mission 8 is full of stuff to read which may contain hints to the puzzles. Without knowing Japanese, however, the solutions can seems utterly inscrutable.
smithpd - congrats!
It's the part just after the two apemen above, room below with table in the middle and a small lava pit. You appear in a circular blue area with a lampost in the center. Directly opposite is a similar area with a mechanist servant. Between the two areas on the right is a wall with an unfrobbable door. Opposite the door is a short hallway that leads into a corridor. On one end is a statue, on the other is a lit crystal in a niche. If you enter the room, the statue starts to shoot purple fire at the crystal, hitting it dead on.
I have two holy water arrows, my blackjack and nothing else. I'm trying to figure out how on earth to open that door!
Cheers!

Old Man and Melissa,
In my mind's eye I finally figured out where you are at. Here's what I did that opened the door:
I knocked out the servant then picked them up and carried them towards that room with the spitball. Don't go all the way into the spitball/statue room but stop right on the threshold just before entering that room. Don't drop the servant either. I don't know the exact "spot" but I kept turning around to see if the door on the other side would open and it finally did. I then dropped the servant and went through. I pulled my hair out over this one.
I found a body in the water but it doesn't highlight so that you could pick it up. Also I can't find any evidence of a book near the body. So what do I do now?
Old Man on 24/10/2003 at 19:43
The book is suspended between the body and the hull of the boat. Oh, say, five feet above the bottom of the water. Get near the body and pan around a bit. Now, the body has spawned in slightly different spots for me so the book might also. Anyhow, it's not on the bottom with the body. Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot "Old Man". By the way, why do you use that name? Just curious, since I am 69 years young.
Old Man on 24/10/2003 at 20:05
I'm only 55, Lynx67. I've been on the "internet" for quite a while but text only mostly. Then, when Quake came out I got into that and everyone but everyone was a kid ... Well, the older ones were in their late twenties and a few in their thirties. Thus "Old Man." Shoot, I've got a daughter older than most of them. The Thief games seem to attract an older, more mature, type. There are plenty older than me.

I've tried that standing around in the spitball anteroom bit, Melissa. Nope. Get the feeling we're being jerked around here? Some sort of TTLG hazing ritual or something?
