I'm going through Doubtful Corridor again, and I still can't find the 31 year old letter. Instead of a hint, could somebody take me by the hand and lead me to it directly?

Clock, I'm not sure if anyone's found the letter. Last I saw in this thread was people suspected it was in the locked picture safe (across from the room with the healing fountain) but nobody managed to open it yet.

The picture safe, in a room off the passage to the dungeon, has been "cracked".
It is opened by a switch on the wall near the holy water font. In that safe is a switch that opens the entry door to the area, which closes when you enter unless you take care to put a body on the pressure plate.
The safe does not contain the letter. I did not find the letter. I searched this thread and could find no record of others finding it, either.

This may sound stupid, being my second time around this, but I can't place where the room with the healing font is.

Never mind...I know what you're talking about now. That picture safe switch is necessary to continue the game. How else can you escape the building?
There WAS one curious room that had no apparent purpose. On your way to the stacked crates room where the "hellish key?" was located, there was a side room with a blackjackable lady inside by a fireplace. To the right is a curtained room with nothing but a pedestal. The pedestal moves up and down, but i don't know what it triggers. Any ideas.
Also, there's a frobbable locked door across from the door which leads to the well that takes you down to the "sword key?". What's the story with this door. You can peek inside and see an elevator that would take you down somewhere.

By placing a body on the floor switch.

I don't know. Could it be part of opening the door at the end of the long nearby corridor?

I have never been able to open that door. It was also present in the original Elevator. I think it is just a teaser. Anyway, it is not necessary to complete the mission.

Oh, I see the picture bit now, that's the problem when these threads get enormous.
I had figured the pedestal opened something later on. Did anyone try *not* using the pedestal and note anything didn't work? It certainly seems suspicious for that to be there and not do anything at all.

????
Ok, I made it past the water "cannon" chute, and into a room with two thiefish-haunts that pretty much ignore me.
6 floor plates that light up lights on the wall, and a tree-beast that appears after I read an unreadable scroll.
What is the purpose of this room other than to confuse me?
I have been scouring it fro about an hour now frobbing everythign I possibly can, but the lack of inventory at this point is no help in doing the "frob-cheat" to see if there is a switch or frobbable item anywhere.:nono:

Go ahead and kill the TreeBeast. There are some Fire Arrows around the chamber for just that purpose. But know beforehand that you'll need to have at least one Fire Arrow left over to finish the mission in the next scene.

OK just downloaded this mission, and it looks like i am in for a long slog.
I am on mission 2 and playing normal. Found both lockpicks, and the sword, but am stuck now. I have one door i can't open, this is opposite a door i've already opened with a tunnel leading down to the triangle lockpick. I can't open the door in the open courtyard which needs a gear to open.
My first impressions of level 2 is that it's like playing tomb raider, with lots of switches and puzzles and maybe JMS is going for this style of game play. I am getting a lot of practice blackjack swordfighting as well without my sword earlier.
