I fired this mission pack up again today to see if the framerate problem would be solved using my new computer. The framerate problem did not re-occur at all in Mission 2. Mission reloads took a normal amount of time. I have a ways to go before I see if mission 9 has a framerate problem.
The new system has: GeForce 6800 GT (about 3-4 times faster than my Ti 4200, and twice as much memory); Athlon 64 3400+; same sound card as before (Audigy 1). I'd bet that the main difference is in the video card. I paid no particular attention to reloads, but I think I made fewer reloads than before because I knew my way around.
So, if you have trouble with frame rates, all you need to do is buy a new computer. :eww:  Or maybe just a graphics card with 256 MB memory. Who knows?
Anyway, I found that to be interesting even if it is not very helpful.

I played through the whole mission series again. Framerate was never an issue with the new video card, apart from one brief, slightly choppy area in the last mission, A Men's Tale. I got past that area, and then it played fine. Also in A Men's Tale, I reloaded quite a few times, and the load times became progressively slower. This did not happen in mission #2, as it did previously. I cannot be sure the long load times have anything to do with the number of reloads. It may also have something to do with the size of the mission (very large with several independent areas) and the number of alterations you are making to the original scene, say, by downing AI or slashing banners. The long reloads were troublesome when I was
jumping onto the railing around the lava pit
to enter the last scene, which required several attempts, but otherwise not an issue.
So, if you have a fast computer with a good video card, I can again recommend this series. I think three of the nine missons are excellent: #2 - A Doubtful Corridor; #8 - Last of EMT2; #9 - A Men's Tale. I will play those again. I think #3 - Factory and #4 - Submarine base are good. I enjoyed all the others, too, but some people may think that they have too much hunting and too little reward in them, hence the comments by some that they are "boring."

Clock: That picture safe switch is necessary to continue the game. How else can you escape the building?
Smithpd: By placing a body on the floor switch.
Clock: There WAS one curious room that had no apparent purpose. On your way to the stacked crates room where the "hellish key?" was located, there was a side room with a blackjackable lady inside by a fireplace. To the right is a curtained room with nothing but a pedestal. The pedestal moves up and down, but i don't know what it triggers. Any ideas.
Smithpd: I don't know. Could it be part of opening the door at the end of the long nearby corridor?
-----------------------------------------------------
I placed a
body on that floor switch before entering that area, and *stilled* got trapped in there. I also laid a body on the pedestal switch where the lady is, and perhaps that's what closed it on me, now that I've read the posts in this area of the thread. Perhaps someone could check if that second pedestal controls the trapping doors, too, because I'm not going to.
I've had my fill of that one! :D But I am curious just the same...
Also, did anyone (everyone?) have to
frob the A/B switch at the lava twice to get the final gate to open?
Thanks!

The body trick works, but one body is unreliable. Perhaps a body, two skulls, three health potions, and a partridge in a pear tree.:)
The lava switch has to be frobbed twice.

I stopped playing this for awhile after becoming too frustrated in Submarine Base, but will go back to it shortly...A Doubtful Corridor was just too much fun! :D I'll probably just warp ahead to mission #5. (Since smithpd put a couple other missions in the same league as ADC, I'm interested in seeing them now)
EDIT: I really enjoyed the first mission- I actually felt like a thief just wandering around the quiet town, trying not to make too much noise on the gravel. You can do some really neat climbing in places too and I enjoyed trying to puzzle my way out to the exit w/ that guard positioned the way he was.

Now, since the last posting concerning the 5 coins in Mission #3 (I played Expert, tho I suspect it's the same for all three levels) was over a year ago, anyone have any luck finding any more than 2 of the 5 coins? TIA --Bob
----------------
WAHOO! Just found a 3rd coin, (Mission #3 The Factory) not 5-10 minutes after posting this original message! :) :) :joke: :thumb: :cheeky:
It's
Down in the hatch in the floor leading down, by the dangerous fire mech bot, near the senseless mechbot trio. It's down in the water down there, on the bottom, by the left of the two grates in the far wall.
Hotdiggity! Whoever said these were boring missions? :) I've found it in a way akin to genealogy, which can become tedious, but when that one piece of information pops up that allows you to go back one more generation, or make that one connection, it makes it all worthwhile... --Bob

I suppose it would be prudent to at least post the location of what I'm assuming are the 2 most easily found coins, and are 2 of the only 3 found thus far (pending further posts):
1.
Most obvious, by dead keeper on floor at beginning of mission.
2.
In room above single female guard's room in large area by gravel path leading downward. Room can be reached by using Rock's Winder Key to get through the door it unlocks, and stay on the metal platform around the edge of the building to other side.
And see previous post for coin #3. I suppose the numbering can be rearranged when all five are known, such as in the order they appear into the mission as closely as possible...

OK- Went back to it last night and had fun with mission #5, ("Transcience" I believe it's called) and proceeded to the 6th...inside that manor.
Is this mission even possible???
The guard who walks away at the start can see me in the dark (unless it's COMPLETELY dark) and he hears me on all that loud tile, plus with that Watcher hounding me! I had to play in Normal to survive a swordfight with him because it takes like 900 points of damage to drop him.
Talk about a FM that tries to make your life miserable!
So I start running around the place helpless since backstabbing wont kill guards (a backstab & 7 overhead swings will!)...and all I find are empty hallways, locked doors with nothing behind them (you can break them down), and absolutely nothing to do.
Time to warp ahead to the next level. So far I enjoyed 4 out of 6...
crowemagnon on 10/12/2004 at 18:23
OK, so I see in the courtyard where
the high balcony is, where others have said the "key of lowliness" will be found...I can even see the small wooden(?) square where a rope or vine arrow would be shot. And from all the previous talk about it, *obviously* a rope or vine arrow is needed, but... *where are there any rope or vine arrows??*
I've been all over and haven't seen one yet...please help! :)
EDIT: Found 'em! Missed the up-the-ladder area beginning from one of the twin bot/turret rooms (understandably), rope arrows up there...yeesh...in fact, I was running quickly to avoid being seen by the bot, and stumbled in that area purely by chance...only way I think I *ever* would've found it.
