Embarrassing problem... - by moria

How far are you through the game mission wise? As T-Smith said, if you go into stonemarket on later levels, then you get mini-wars. And the survivors see the corpses and blame you. I got about 3 Hammerites chasing me because of that, even though I was allied with them.

I'm on day 8. I just finished the Cradle and the
part immediately after, where I followed Lauryl's ghost, then I went back to the Keeper Library, where I had the brilliant idea of looking for Gamal's Lair in Auldale.
I thought I would do a spot of ordinary thieving before going on to the next mission, because I wanted to stock up on weapons.

Ordinary thieving eh? If you're past the Cradle, I recommend the following places to grab some cash -
1. Look by your dead fence's shop door in Old Quarter. There will be a note there that'll let you participate in a mini-mission for some gold.
2. Stonemarket (not Proper) and Southquarter are your best bets for money now. Run around and pick pocket everyone that has anything. Then, once everyone doesn't have anything left, start blackjacking them and hiding the bodies in one area. The bodies will start dissapearing and new people will start appearing, most of the time with more loot.
3. Stay the HELL away from Stonemarket Proper. You can get loot, but chances are it won't be enough to cover the expenses of the items you'll be using to simply stay alive in there :thumb:

Oh yeah - something really annoying happened in South Quarter - this bint was wandering around wearing a tiarra or something, so I blackjacked her, lugged her body to the fountain and dumped it in the shadows, went back for the loot - and couldn't find it anywhere. :(
I did mug someone for his spectacles (!) too, but felt a bit mean about that one (yes, I KNOW they're only AIs) - it just doesn't seem very master thief-ish, if you know what I mean.

Actually, it works MOST of the time.
Stonemarket Proper is an absolute nightmare later in the game, which is a damn shame, because it's got a ton of loot to get each day. However, later in the game it's not worth the effort, when Pagan and Hammers kill each other with a civilian watching, then the civilian turns around and says that YOU'RE responsible.
Anyways, on to my point - I've found that, even if you don't attack them, with all the frantic nonsense going on there, even if you're allied with the Pagans or Hammers they'll occasionally attack you in Stonemarket Proper. Not all the time, but it still happens every once in a while. Your best bet is to avoid the place altogether.
I hear ya. It's very difficult to get through SM Proper, especially once the Hag is about. There's a lot of lighting and parts of the map can't be avoided using the houses.

That 3 in that bulding are the hardest in the game but they're the same as each other at least. You can't use the keys to do it, you have to use the mouse and move it around in a circle until you're in the general area. Once there, you have to make tiny movements until you it right. They're sub directions like NNW, ESE, etc. It's a right pain in the mechanical eye.

You know, that pagan-speak just makes me want to kill them. Especially the women.
Funny thing, I managed to (unintentionally) improve my faction status with the Hammers, after the Cradle and the next mission, without really realising. So I'm lurking in the church in Fort Ironwood, awaiting my chance to KO this patrolling Hammer, so that I can search and rob the place properly, and while I'm crouching in the dark with my blackjack, he strolls past and murmers "Builder be with you, Garrett". It just struck me as a really funny scenario, and I did feel a bit embarrassed and self-conscious when I stood up and walked out of the shadows (I still snagged the loot, though :ebil: ).
