I just thought of this idea, and i think it would fit in really well with DX2 and it's whole immersive simulation gimmick.
In DX, there was the locational damage system for JC, and if your legs were completely destroyed you had to crawl. Apparently the same system was used for enemies, but i could hardly tell.
It would be really cool if enemies didn't die after a given amount of hit points. Perhaps you shoot him/her in the stomach. He falls to the ground, dazed, but not dead, he would continue to shoot at you untill he slowly died (perhaps other enemies would pick him up for medical help). Same thing with blowing out legs. The enemy would be crawling on the ground and still shooting at you if possible.
This would add a great deal of depth to the battles IMO.

Cool, idea. It would enhance it more if there was also a pain variable that affected how the enemies were able to target you. Like if you had just kneecapped them, they'd be rolling on the floor groaning instead of shooting, but if you'd just winged them they'd continue to shoot.

Why start a new thread? Please consolidate all your ideas. This could've easily went under AI. The less threads we have in here, the better.

Of course I'd hate the idea of a "pain variable" to apply to the player. I mean the game is supposed to be 'fun' and I hate the idea of being dibilitated(sp?) just because the game says so. But I do agree with the enemies crawling on the ground etc. but you have to think of how much bigger the game would be... including all the new NPC positions and limping, etc.

That's why a blended skeletal modeling system with inverse kinematics would really go far to create an immersive world...You could have hundreds of different global animations (writing, eating/drinking, smoking, dozing, typing, etc.) that you could blend together with walking, running, trotting, resting, leaning, etc.! Can you imagine walking into a pub with someone drinking at a table, others chatting away, someone else writing something or typing on a laptop, someone flipping her hair to flirt with a customer--it would give a real sense of immersion and make you care more about the characters...I know they're probably working on something like this right now (I hope :p )...

As long as this doesn't end up with a Soldier of Fortune sadism I think it's a good idea.
