In Dead Space's defense, it is a horror game.

So the horror is of dying and having to watch the overly long cutscene before you can try again? Devious! :D

I don't... really recall there being that many long death cutscenes?
There's a few non-standard game-overs but for the most part it's just Isaac getting smashed, Isaac getting slashed, Isaac getting his head ripped off by a severed head that proceeds to plant itself on the stump...

I need to actually FINISH Dead Space. Hopefully in time for Dead Space 2.

There were only a few, but they were very annoying (to me, at least). Mostly the arm things that dragged you away, the ones with the yellow blobs you had to shoot. They have extremely long struggling/death scenes. As did the final end boss, for that matter.

I thought that you hated Dead Space to the point where you had to give your copy away?

Yeah, the pre and post arm thing unskippables are hella annoying. Why do this? The 1st time I walk in there, fine, but on my next attempt? Come on.
I'm currently stuck in a room of hell with not enough ammo or stasis to fight my way out so I haven't played for months :(

I did, but I saw it for just a few dollars on clearance, figured I'd give it a second chance. I ended up liking it the 2nd time around, but it got buried because I bought the L4D bundle before I could finish it. I think I told you my updated opinions on it last spring in chat, but it might've been someone else.

Finished Enslaved. The final bossfight had the decency to not be hard as shit. It also had the decency to be freakin' cool.
Overall, really good game. The platforming is very easy. The number of places where you can even get hurt/fall to your death is extremely limited. The mantling and swinging is more of a cool-looking way of getting around than a challenge. The combat is solid though. Moves include: fast-attacks, strong-attacks, stun-whack-attacks for shielded enemies, and shooty plasma- and stun-attacks. And ofcourse there are combos, which, over time charges a superduper-attack, which should be used wisely. Enemies include: slashers, zappers, brutes, shooters, bangers, and big motherfuckers. Some enemies will radio for backup, you gotta take them down quickly or you'll have a whole new wave of enemies charging up on you. Some of the enemy mechs also have techincal flaws which you can exploit to your advantage. It all comes together to form a potent brawler-soup which'll require a delicate balance of thinking on your feet and mashing buttons like a madman.
The story, and the chararcters, are great. If you've played the demo you can probably guess that sparks eventually fly between odd-couple Monkey and Trip. But there's a bit more to it than that. There is some moral ambiguity, it's not all straightforward. I've said too much. Buy this game. Though I will not begrudge anyone for waiting out the eventual price-drop.
