Some Thief purists have blasted his opinions that the levels in Thief 1 are too huge. But I don't think he's completely wrong. When talking about Thief 1. Thief Gold to be specific. The Thieves Guild is the worst level in the game, precisely because of the hugeness of the level, and lack of any direction. For taff's sake, there are multiple instances of absolutely necessary things being hidden without any clues left around to help players discover them. Some levels in Thief 1 do suffer from being too big and monotonous, and there are just too many things that are hidden behind a wall of nonsense. I discovered the location of the Serpentyle Torc by accident, because there's no way the location of that door above the drawbridge makes any sense in the context of building structure, even though the location was vaguely hinted at by some readables mentioning street names.
Thief 2 on the other hand did fix the issue of levels being cryptic and monotonous. Even the remakes of maze-like levels from the first game like Kidnap, and very sprawling levels such as the Bank, were remedied by the presence of detailed maps that accurately showed the structure of the level. There were very few examples of necessary things being completely hidden without any clues.
I was 10 when I played through TDP, and only got stuck once, in the Haunted Cathedral, due to not knowing English that well, and I couldn't understand the Eye's instructions regarding the keeper statue. I was 12 when I played through T2, and I had no problems. The levels were not irredeemably too huge when I was a stupid little kid, and they are definitely not now. I recognize the problems the first game had, but I also recognize how the problem was solved in the second one, and made forcefully irrelevant by the increased restrictions of superior hardware in the 3rd and 4th ones.

Doesn't he realize that the Thieves Guild was created to justify the Gold expansion existing by providing just "more thief"? Like, yeah, it's a seriously flawed level, but its whole purpose is to be adding more to the expansion.
I really don't see how he can call the level design nonsensical either. At some points, that's the purpose of the design. He makes it sound like the game is littered with these issues. I can't take the idiot seriously after his Bioshock Infinite and Quake videos though, jeez, this guy doesn't actually know a thing about what he's talking about, does he?

Certainly makes some good points. Can't say I agree with some points but then again I'm not much of a gamer so I don't have wide knowledge about lots of other games to draw a comparison.
