Error... d3dx9_43.dll ???

Just got a new machine. Running Win 8.1.

I have numerous installs of thief from my old machine. I copied my T2/1.22 new dark install and my new dark TDPG install and both seem fine. However my dromed install of T2 and my install of plain old TDP give me the same error. I'm puzzled why two work fine and two do not. Seems something linked to directx.

Anybody?

Maybe there was some registry keys associated to those versions of Thief ?

I never curated my registry manually.

Except for PATH and ASSOC keys.

Maybe...that stuff's a bit beyond this taffer's tech knowledge.

And just to be clear. I did not "install" thief on the new machine, I simply copied the folders from my old machine via a DVD to the new one. I remember reading here at some time that that was OK to do.

Looks like you should download and install DirectX v9 from Microsoft.
Windows 8.1 probably either comes with version 10 or 11 - or none at all - by default.
But you need version 9 for those older games, I guess.
