The conversation is hilarious. Don't kill him until you have listened to it five or six times. Well, maybe it was more like 10 or 11 for me. :laff:

To be honest, I think it's pretty hard to balance an unlimited range, 30-second lockon heat seaking cruise missile launcher carryable in one hand with at least 20 rockets in reserve. I mean, how can you give it a weakness?

Other than attracting lots of attention, taking up as much of your precious inventory as the sniper rifle, both pistols, the crossbow, and the riot prod all together, and exploding people into tiny little meaty chunks that you can't search for goodies, I can't think of a thing.
Personally, I agree that a GEP gun makes many situations way too easy, in much the same way as a Dragon's Tooth with Combat Strength or a silenced Sniper Rifle with Master rifle skill. The GEP gun just doesn't fit my play style, so I never bother to carry one around, but when I find one I can't help picking it up at least long enough to go find something that really needs blowing up.

I like it... sniper takes long, you can only use it really good (at least me ;) ) with master rifle, and you get that VERy late...
But GEP... walk around a corner, see that military bot... GEP out, lock in, fire, cover...reload, corner, shoot, ex-bot ;)

Personally I think they could have toned down the GEP by reducing the ammo you can carry to maybe half-a-dozen rockets.
Also possibly the robots could have been given some kind of countermeasures system. (I think you get an Aug that protects your against rockets yourself by remotely detonating them, I've never really used it myself but perhaps something along those lines?)
Thing is, when you have a GEP, robots just aren't much of a threat.

They aren't much of a threat without it, either - easily avoided. And the HE20 grenades of the assault rifle work just as well. :)

Actually, I managed to specialize and got master rifle skill just after the Mole People hideout, so ya boo to you!
