512x1024 for paintings/objects is way overkill. I can't think of any reason why you would ever want that. Just because NewDark allows for high-res textures doesn't mean you have to go all the way with 1K textures, that's the best way to make the engine slow down to a crawl.

What would you recommend as a maximum size, to ensure smooth performance across as many FMs and PCs as possible? Slowing down the engine is the last thing I want to do, especially for beefier missions.

512 is the absolute limit I'd target for both object and terrain textures. You really don't need any texture bigger than that unless it's a really specific case.

I will keep this in mind. Do you also suggest saving in traditional GIF format, or does the engine do fine with PNG file textures?

The engine supports a wide range of formats, the best by far are .DDS and .PNG, with .DDS being lighter than .PNG.

I will keep this in mind. I'll likely use PNG so that it's easier for modders to edit them in almost any program, but it's also likely I'll use DDS in the future for larger textures or if people are saying the engine's starting to chug. I'll see if I can fit a version of both in smaller files if they don't get too big - Mediafire only has a max storage of
2 GB 10 GB for its free plan.
I've also edited into the original post a note about editing these textures.
You are free to edit and modify these textures as you see fit. :thumb: If you'd like to add or take from anything, or if you want to tweak anything to fit your vision or mission aesthetics better, go ahead! All of the resources I used for these are Public Domain. Let your creativity run wild!
Edit: Mediafire has more storage space than I thought. I'm still going to try and get the most out of it that I can.

Added a new Painting Pack with a bonus pack for Dewdrop recolours. Pagan Cave Art textures aren't turning out the way I'd hoped, so I may put those aside for now and finish the Painting Pack series instead. I might also put up what I have here for cave art textures for suggestions and feedback.

You are using resolutions 258x516 and 512x258 with gif format.
You must resize them to 256x512 and 512x256 if you want them to show up properly in the game with that format.
They look ok with those resolutions if you make them png although the format is not really supported under those resolutions.

Thanks for the heads-up. I mixed up the height/width measurements for Dromed this time. An updated link with properly-working textures will be along shortly. Some are PNG, but most are GIF. (I was planning to save them as .PNG wholly, but I went into a rut of saving them as .GIF after working on the Dewdrop textures. Things blended from one into the other after the twentieth file, I think.)

.PNG doesn't really work with those resolutions.
It's not clear what you mean by "doesn't really work". The requirement for 'powers of two' dimensions is for all object and terrain textures of any format.
