It's better to be sure.

Considering some of denisv's posts in the past I'm going to have to side with Matthew on this one.
Also fuck Blizzard. Their idea of an RPG is "whack whack here's some gold."
Thirith on 12/11/2008 at 12:12
Blizzard's idea of an addictive game is "Whack, whack, here's some gold", and they seem to be correct on that one. It's mainly incompetent games journalists who call Diablo an RPG or at best an action RPG.

The problem is, the only Blizzard RPG actually worth playing is the first Diablo. If Blizzard were to do a PS:T remake it would be a pseudo-MMO centered more around phat lewt and stats whoring than, you know, story.
Thirith on 12/11/2008 at 12:27
Sure, but there'd be no reason why they should do a remake of Planescape Torment. That's about as likely as slamming Steven Spielberg because that remake of Kurosawa's Ran that he's planning would so suck.
(Edit: For the record, I greatly enjoyed Diablo 2 while I was playing it, mostly in singleplayer. No complaints from me about that game.)

I wouldn't trust Blizzard with a remake of anything, not even one of their own games. Then again, if I had my druthers, they'd all be drawn and quartered alongside EA for doing everything within their power to eliminate any artistry left in gaming.
What we need more of are Richard Garriotts and Andrzej Sapkowskis. Then again, that may just be me. :thumb:

(The only reason I looked was because I bought Planescape used a couple years ago, but haven't played it yet; since I was going to try to get to it this Winter (long cold nights=motive and opportunity for extended gaming sessions) I was disheartened to read some of your comments. Hopefully this mod delivers.)

Looks like a replay of Torment is on the cards!
AxTng1 on 13/11/2008 at 05:04
I tried that. It seems to help only if the moon is in the correct position.
The UI is ballsed and it causes a fair number of camera bugs in scripted scenes.
CLICK TO SCROLL is imo the biggest immersion killer EVER, and it has not gone away.

The key here is that the people in society who define what is art, need to have a basic understanding of a new art-form, before they can recognize it as art. And currently, we have a generation in charge, that has little understanding and experience with computers. People in goverments, in parliaments, judges, executives in newspapers and tv-stations. Most of them are too old to have really used computers. They certainly have never played computer games. Just like the generation before them probably never read comic books, or maybe even never went to the cinema.
Give it 20 years. By then maybe we'll have gamers in influential positions. We don't even need hardcore gamers there. Can you imagine a secretary of cultural affairs who used to play World of Warcraft for 20 hours per week ? Or a new director of the Guggenheim, who used to spend many hours designing maps in the Unreal editor ? I can guarantee you, if the people at the top will have those experiences, the official perception of art will change. But it will take a while. Old people rule the world.
Remember what I wrote ?
Today I just read that one of Obama's FCC Transition Team Co-chair is a WoW player.

It seems you are getting gamers in high positions quicker than I expected.
Edit: this is the guy's character's profile. He plays a resto shaman.
