Good God we're rubbish.

I'm kind of happy to Sweden knocked out, just for the amusement the howls of agony from the Swedish tabloids will give me, but on the other hand I'm kind of sad because the Swedish games have been the most entertaining ones in the tournament. A tie would've been the fairest result, but both teams were a lot better than in their first games.

It was a bit scrappy tbh, but the best team won. We shouldn't have let that second goal in - it was amateur.
Bye bye hot Swedish girls in the crowd that the camera men focus on.

I'm confused.
Final group A table:
Czech Rep: 6 pts, GD -1
Greece: 4 pts, GD 0
Russia: 4 pts, GD +2
Poland: 4 pts, GD -1
So, Greece finish above Russia despite of having a worse goal difference... apparently head-to-head matches between two teams count before goal difference then?
In that case, shouldn't Holland (in group B) be out for sure as well? Germany already have 6 points, and even if Holland beat Portugal in their last match, they'll still have only 3 points, the same as Denmark.
And as well all know, Denmark beat Holland in their first group match, so surely Denmark should proceed to the next stage then... Am I missing something obvious here?!

At that point, Portugal will have won the head-to-head against Denmark, though, so they would have a claim to go through as Group runners-up. Apart from the fact that they will have lost against Holland, so now we go round in circles. ;)
I think then what counts is goal-difference, then number of goals scored against the team on equal goal-difference, then 'UEFA co-efficient', or somesuch.
[edit] More importantly, though, should Germany go through as Group winners they will play their quarter final against Greece. I think we should cancel tomorrow's elections and make the bailout dependent on that game's result. [/edit]

Yes Tomi, you are indeed missing something quite obvious.
If Holland beat <s>Denmark</s> Portugal in their last match, and Germany beat <s>Portugal</s> Denmark, then three teams (Denmark, Portugal & Holland) will have 3 points. And because they've all beaten each other so there's no way to sort them by head-to-head matches, it would go down to goal difference.
So basically, if Germany win and Holland win by
two or more goals, the Germans and Dutch will qualify. Denmark need at least a point against Germany, or a win if Netherlands don't beat Portugal.
EDIT: Ninja-N'Al explained it better than I did... What's 'UEFA co-efficient'?
N'Al on 16/6/2012 at 21:29
Tomorrow's matches are Germany - Denmark and Holland - Portugal, but otherwise correct, yes. ;)
As for UEFA co-efficient: (

Tomorrow is going to be an exciting day for sure. I'll be flicking between matches.
That head to head thing is different but it kind of makes sense, no?
Tomi on 16/6/2012 at 22:22
The flicking between matches technique never works for me, I always miss all the goals and exciting action. I think I'll just watch the Holland game as I really want them to go through, can't see them winning by two or more goals though... And surely Denmark won't be pushovers against Germany either.
The head to head thingy makes sense, yeah, I just wasn't expecting it! Has this rule been in place in the previous tournaments as well, or is this the first time they're using it?
