Why is that?
I do exaggerate (a lot). But Belgium and France do border, the main language spoken in Belgium is French with just minor difference from "normal French". My guess was just that, a guess, but I guessed correctly out of 16 possibilities.
What really did surprise me was the 12 points from Hungary to Iceland, because our song this year really wasn't that good, and there is no special relationship between the countries to my knowledge.
Kuuso, I had high hopes for Estonia too, I really liked their song.

FORGET about the Eurovision. Forget about singing silly songs to win prizes what kinda pussy shit is that anyway. The real measure of a country's BADASSNESS is clearly to see which country has the best dudes at skating around an icerink and shooting pucks into goals. And... seeing as Finland just won the ICEHOCKEY WORLD FUCKING CUP I think we can safely conclude that FINLAND NUMBA ONE! ALL OTHER COUNTRY NUMBA TWO!:cool::cool:

The played the hockey world cup during the nhl finals? Seems like a bit of a sham to me.

They play the ice hockey world cup during the NHL finals every year, the tournament just barely gets a mention in the media outside the few European "ice hockey countries" I'm afraid. Many of the big name NHL star players don't even bother with the world cup usually, even if their team has been knocked out from the NHL playoffs already, but for example Ovechkin and a few other big stars played for Russia in this year's tournament.
Perhaps there would be more interest for the world cup if they didn't play it every single year, and if it didn't overlap with the NHL playoffs.

Blue, Jeward and all this tosh? Looks like it was a good year to be working a late weekend.

I think you should learn a bit about geography. Belgium's main language is Dutch. French speaking people are a minority. Also, the relationship between French speaking Belgians and people from France is not always that friendly.
As for the French song, I'd like to remind you that bookmakers thought it was going to be the winner (which is probably why people didn't vote for it, as the best way to win when you can't vote for your own country is to vote for someone worse than you). I agree taste plays a part in this, but beyond taste there is also what we could call artistic value. For example I don't like jazz at all, but I can still acknowledge the quality of a piece of music. Let's be honest, most song in this contest were about the same level as Rebecca Black's Friday. A few actually had artistic value, but most of them were done by people who I wouldn't even qualify as amateur.
BTW, on my mp3 player, I have a bit of everything. From one of Haendel's opera (Rinaldo), to Rammstein's Rosenrot. I also have music from Jean-Michel Jarre, Lady Gaga and even The Village People. What do you have in yours?

I watch Mike and Mike, First Take, SportsCenter and listen to sports radio on the way home from work. They made NO mention of this. THAT is fucked. I mean, they cover hockey, but I guess the NBA finals are taking their attention away from everything else since King James the traitor is actually close to getting his ring the first year after defecting from the Cavs.

ESPN tend to avoid NHL since they lost the TV rights

What is it about continental Europe that makes them produce such wretched music in the first place though?
I probably couldn't name more than twenty (non-British and Irish) European artists that have made a meaningful contribution to popular music. Whereas I could name more than twenty from my home city alone.

As far as I can tell, the competitors are only representative of a very specific type of musician. There's a German word for this kind of music - "Schlager" - which is different from national pop music (which may be differently wretched, mind you). You're basically doing the equivalent of judging UK pop and rock by looking at Barry Manilow or Cliff Richards.
