I played it for a while, but the harshness of PvP (Lose everything) made me lean towards mining. And then I realized just how boring that was...
I'd play it if it were free. But it's not worth a subscription, especially as I might go for months at a time without touching it.

I played for a while, the corp I joined were very nice toward newbies etc ... but I made a blooper and ended up with my first new ship being blasted apart in about five seconds by a pirate's Apocalypse. That gave me a heads-up about the horrible grind I would be looking at and so I didn't continue.
I feel bad about never repaying the money one player gave me, though he did say it was basically the equivalent of half an hour's worth of mining for him. Maybe someday I'll log on again and pay him back.

Although people often take a disliking to the ability to 'lose all', this is also one of the best things about the game.
To put it in perspective, I could buy tens of thousands of fully kitted out frigates with my current bank balance, and I don't do mining. Eww :D

For some perhaps, but for someone like me who is mildly obsessive about collecting stuff, it isn't so much.

It's a great
concept, but it means hours of grinding for anyone that wants to fight a lot.

A bit of trading on the side and you never need grind missions or asteroid belts at all.

I played it but got bored with it, as you characture would only advance if you were offline.

I don't think you really understood how the game worked.

I'd love to give this a proper go one day but I'm also tempted by Jumpgate Evolution. EVE seems to take up so much damn time, but I suppose if I ever get around to programming that thing I want to do I could run it in the background.
Just home much do you lose when you are killed? And someone remind me about "podding". I was under the impression that death, whilst not as temporary as in WoW, was not that big of a deal unless certain conditions were met (of which I know not).
