My other half asked me if I liked House just last night. My answer was 'Every episode is the same'. Get outta my head, Queue.
At least House is honest to its inspiration in that respect.

No, I meant computer role playing games...
Weird, I didn't see any references to Wizardry or Bard's Tale.
Edit: Also, blood magic is the Dragon Age version of necromancy. Just because they change the name of it doesn't make it any goddamn different.
Edit 2: And uh, it was responsible for the creation of the darkspawn/blight. So yeah, the entire goddamn series is based around good people messing around with necromancy and making shit go bad.

Actually, Dragon Age has all of those cliches. I think the poster may have even had that game in mine making his list.
Hell, the Gay Wardens even have the "special power which slowly kills you" trope.

Heh. Funny thing is, one of my four favorite games of all time, Arx Fatalis, has most of those. Still love it. Not the most original concepts, but done in a very original manner. But yeah, most fantasy is just bastardized Tolkien mixed around a bit.

Yeah, because most of the people here have never played the classics. They think that before Morrowind there were no rpgs. lol

I swear to god when I read your post I thought you were talking about Planescape. I suppose that reply makes no sense then.

Yeah, but so is every episode of House. And it's still popular as hell, so they'll keep cranking them out and making a ton of money even though it's nothing new.
I think it comes down to that people honestly love what they know, or at least are willing to spend money on what they know.
...or they just love mediocrity.

Hahahaha. That is actually the whole reason why I stopped watching House. I love the side-story of House and his crew, but it's like 3 mintues of original content tagged on 40 minutes of "ITS LUPUS ITS NOT LUPUS IT WAS LUPUS ALL ALONG" that's always the same fucking thing.

Some think Morrowind is an RPG.

"In the contemporary world, blood magic is described as being one of the more "sinister" types of magic. Blood magic is the magical practice of using blood, life itself, as a potent fuel for magical spells. This life may be supplied by the mage, or by willing or unwilling sacrifices."
The main point of necromancy has always historically been dealing with the dead and talking to spirits, and in the case of rpg's summoning them.

Super-PSTW action RPG. This game is the best fantasy RPG game of all time, and contains all the different game-play and story elements which make up the majority of RPGs.
