The funny thing is that the old sword always appears somewhere else. I always try to find it before ending the mission...like a bonus objective. :joke:
Well, If you still like to have that bonus objective, don't read the spoiler.
It appears where you last time sheathed your sword

I've been playing Thief for years and years and played this particular mission numerous times, but I have never known about this.
Thief never ceases to amaze me.

I had no idea about this either, and I wrote the first walkthrough for the frakking thing!! GREAT find. I just finished that mission (playing through with my 8 year old), so now I have to go back and try it. Way to go BA! :thumb:
How fucking amazing is this game, still?

lol, you had no idea either fett? Niiiice. Glad I found that. Makes me wonder if there is a remote possibility of anything else being missed? You wouldn't think so after all these years. Is this the first new thing found in years on Thief Gold that no body new about? Makes me wonder, and want to go around shooting everything. I've always used a rope arrow before to get the sword.
I originally wanted to shoot a rope arrow into that thing and see if I could scale down and nab the sword. Wanting to check if an arrow would stick, and not waste my rope arrows, I used the broad head instead. WTF. I peak over the edge and see it laying on top of that platform. I leave the tunnel, went down by the red rings, and jumped into the center and crouched down so the guards wouldn't see me, and nabbed it.

Awesome finds, guys!:D
Throughout the years, I've always wondered if the room Garrett meets Viktoria & Constantine in is actually in the mission. (I'm talking about the sitting room featured in that amazing cutscene right after The Sword.)
The hall Garrett later receives his "compensation" in is clearly built into the mansion, so I've puzzled over whether or not any of the rooms in the manor were intended to be the meeting room I mentioned. So far, I've always casually assumed that the freaky sitting room above the greenhouse (through the suspended water on the ceiling) was that same room (though with some details and ornamentation missing). Anybody else ever thought about this or tried to figure out if the cutscene room is located in the mansion? That's been one of the biggest points of confusion for me for ages.

Too bad I cannot read it.

To sum up the article:
You've got used to play as a Thief in a medieval setting; picking locks, sneaking and stealing from noble houses.
From the outside, The Sword seemed to look like one of this missions. A noble man's estate, guards, loot. But as soon as you entered the mansion using the balcony, you begin to realize that there is something different, something strange is happening...
Rooms are upside down, water is floating in the air, plants everywhere and the laws of physics don't seem to apply to this building. The more you proceed into this mission, the more your senses will be confused by the building. Up and down are without meaning in this place and once you've got what you came here, things tend to get even worse.

The trick about sword is known for almost 4 years and was described on (
http://darkfate.ru/forum/topic.cgi?forum=9&topic=27&start=90) Darkfate forum. It also appears if a player switch it to another weapon, but if it's ready when taking Constantine's Sword, it'll appear invisible. The hilt shows the direction a player was looking when sheathing the sword. Obviously, it's not bug, and Easter Egg. As for Constantine's Sword, it stays with player after taking an old one. You can switch to it by next/prev buttons.

I'm curious if any body really knew about hitting the *pod* above the sword? I may start another thread, take a poll.
