So we'll see if the rumour that the game is out today holds. In the meantime, reviews(
http://www.factornews.com/test-532-E_Y_E_Divine_Cybermancy.html) are starting to pop up.
This one is not particularly great though, it's not worth translating in its entirety. The game is "hardcore", "old-school" without hand holding, there's a lot to do and a huge tech tree, choice of approach and a large impact on how the game plays depending on your earlier choices. The weapons are very meaty and satisfying. The levels are apparently much bigger than with other source games. A playthrough is rougly 20 hours without doing all secondary quests or coop. The design is a bit all over the place but apparently that's a good thing. Allow me to doubt that.
On the bad side, they say the save system is pretty weird. There's a coma system allowing to be revived instantly a limited number of times before loading the save at the beginning of the level, so it's not unusual to die in the middle of a firefight, be revived only to die again the next second and so on until you're out of 'resurrectors'. There's also a mental health system tacked on, and it's hard to know when you'll go batshit insane and be unable to fight. It doesn't help that you usually die very fast and that you never know when the game saves for you (no quicksave).
I don't really mind that because it's going to make the combat pretty nervous, but that still sounds like a strange decision to me.
Also on the negative side, the relative poorness of the NPC interactions (not many NPCs and uninteresting dialogue), no versus mode or competitive coop.

While the review I linked to is probably too lenient because the game is french and independent, that RPS article is the most bored and facile writing I've seen in a while. But then what should I expect.
"The scope, then, is impressive, but you have to remember that we are dealing with indie production values. [...] it doesn’t quite manage to feel authentic in the way that higher budget games do."
Yeah, right.

It's out.

So it is. 18 euros! That's cheap, but I think I'll wait a bit and see what some proper reviews say. Brie, I see you've bought it, do let us know what you think after you've played it for a bit. I have no doubts that the gameplay will be fun but I'm worried that the narrative might be a bit stale and loaded with unfunny jokes.

I'm a few bucks short of being able to buy it today, but damn those environments look good.

Thanks for the link Brie. But the guy is playing it in French. And he's spending more time Steam-chatting to other Frenchies than playing it! Grrrr. :sly:

I think he's been mostly flipping through servers. Looks like he's playing multi now, actually. Or not. I don't know this language but I know it involves pastries and underage girls.
