I'm just about tired of the relentlessly grim focus their games have had for the past five years.
But I
like that. :( Well, Condemned 2's story is fucking stupid though.

Don't Activision/Vivendi still hold the rights to NOLF?
Do they? I don't know. Still wouldn't stop 'lith from doing a spin-off or just renaming everything (which, with some deft writing, would fit and could actually be freaking
hilarious) like they were going to with Fear 2, before WB bought the rights to the franchise back.

No doubt about it, they're
good at this stuff. But four games later, I feel like they've got to let go and unwind a bit. Too much gloom and doom isn't good for anyone. They've got fantastic writing skills for humour as well as horror, but I haven't been feeling it lately. Fear 2 was fine but it didn't have the impact of the original, IMO, and felt somewhat shallow in comparison. Personally, I think they've got to stretch their legs and regain some inspiration.

Day 1 Studios? Best known for the critical flop Fracture? Hmmm, I dunno.
I found (
http://www.day1studios.com/) this on their web site:-

F.E.A.R. 3 - A message from Day 1 Studios President - Denny Thorley
April 8th, 2010
We announce our F.E.A.R. project this week and there is a flurry of activity... trailers to review, press releases to approve and lots of staff interviews for the upcoming community site. Crazy for sure. It's been a long time coming, but we are psyched to start showing off F.E.A.R. 3!
It's been great working with Monolith on the successor for their F.E.A.R. franchise and it was a pleasant surprise when their creative team completely embraced many of our ideas for the game. Several of Monolith's Seattle based team members actually joined us in Chicago for most of the development cycle. The best part? The game is better with the collaboration between our two studios. We are building the game with a new take on co-op... divergent co-op in “marketing speak” and we also have added active cover to the experience to increase tactical choices in combat. These are just a few of the new features we've enhanced the game with. Of course, it wouldn't be F.E.A.R. without horror and with the help of Steve Niles and John Carpenter I'm confident you will find the story pretty interesting.
Check out the announce trailer at (
www.IGN.com) and stay tuned as we get to share more details about the game. This site is a great resource, along with whatisfear.com and fearfans.com.
If key Lith staffers actively contributed like that blog claims, then there could still be some promise. Either way I'm indifferent 'til we see some gameplay footage.
EDIT: (

Can someone explain to me what "active cover" means? I would've thought that "active cover" means you have to press a button to go into cover like in fear 2, except he said they've added it to the sequel. :weird:

You didn't press a button to go into cover in FEAR 2.

Errr..... move along, nothing to see here...

Okay that trailer...
I'm having a VERY hard time with it. On the one hand I'm skeptical- FEAR 2 was at least sterling silver if not solid gold, but Condemned 2 really disappointed me; the live-action trailer looks cheesy as fuck, too. Yet on the other hand OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

Fear 1 was accompanied by a (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHb1U8fyjqk) live-action prequel short film, in case you've forgotten.
Also it was only a teaser, not a proper trailer. Judging anything by a teaser is pretty silly, especially when said teaser includes bugger all footage from the actual product.

I've tried to forget.
