Say, is Final Fantasy 9 worth bothering with? It's one those titles that I never got around to buying because the PAL version was always pretty expensive (and a bad conversion to boot).
I didn't like FF10 much and thus never bothered to finish it (way better than 8 and 2 though).

IX is ten whole shitloads better than VIII, unless you're an emo.
It's worth a look, I played it all the way to the end.

With both of the Final Fantasy games that I played (VIII and X), I found the characters and storyline annoying until it battered me into submission by the sheer length of the game, at which point I started to give a damn. Strange experience, let me tell you.

6 > 9 > 7 > 8 > 10
Only ones I've played. But ultimately, remember this:
1) Each FF has its own characters, world, and storyline. They will be different from eachother.
2) All FF games are Turn-based RPGs. Some like them some don't.
So you may like it, you may hate it. I say give it a shot.

IX was one of two Final Fantasy games I truly enjoyed. The other being X. I recommend it, if you are into FF, but I was a much differerent gamer then. I wouldn't touch a FF game if you paid me, these days.

Except 12.
I just got through 6 the other day. Totally worth it- it's got the most character (and characters) and a stunning soundtrack. The opera scene alone makes you forget the music is on a SNES soundchip.
9 is definitely a good one, though if you can find one where the discs aren't broken kudos to you. They were printed rather poorly and my disc 1 no longer works.
Basically the only ones worth bothering with are 6, 9, 7 and 12, in that order. 7's storyline is kind of dumb and the protagonist is a complete dick, but of the 4 it's the most futuristic. Vaan in 12 is also awful- they made him the protagonist instead of the incredibly awesome Balthier to appeal to the teenage girls. Kid needs a helmet and waterwings to wear to bed, he's that stupid. Zidane however is probably the best one after the leads in 6. Total number of emo moments: one, in disc 3 I think. The rest of the time he's all about bitches and money.

Just curious - what DID you expect?

Being Final Fantasy and all, I for one expected it to be at least musically competent.
What a piece of shit
