I'm not sure whether I've seen that version. I'm guessing it's not ninety minutes long with editing so strict that the film is almost practically a montage.

It just came out this year. It removes the opening monologue that basically gives away the game, and keeps the Strangers a mystery for most of the film.

Fantastic. I'll pick up a copy.

Ooh, me too! It's a film I've always wanted to see but yet never quite managed to.

Meanwhile, I've got Dark City to bide my time with. It's got a dts audio track, so yay! :D
I'm picking up the blu-ray director's cut. Can't wait. The original is a great but flawed movie, I wasn't surprised to hear Proyas had the studio fucking with him during development.

I was going to say why it's a good but not great movie, but Scots pretty much nailed it. He IS too fucking concise. :D
...
Actually, come to think of it, that's a lot like a PKD story! Heh.
I've been saying it for years.... I'm the fucking man.
Anyway, you've actually hit the nail on the head and it provides an interesting counterpoint for debate to a movie like No Country For Old Men. Is the danger in staying very true to the source in an adaptation (in style/content/tone) amplified when dealing with an author who is not a critical darling, such as PKD versus McCarthy...
Got NCFOM on blu-ray with my PS3... hoping to watch it tonight after I get it all finally set up right! :D

Since I don't have any consoles, I'm interested in the PC release of Bully, which I've heard nothing but good things about
Yes, dude, yes. I was apprehensive as hell about Bully: Scholarship Ed. It's a 4 year old game about a kid in a boarding school so I figured the gameworld would be tiny, but it ain't. Well, ok, compared to LC in GTA4 it
is tiny, but there is a lot more to do in it than in GTA4. Like earlier GTA games it's basically a collection of minigames tied together in an open-world by a story that always takes the backseat to the pure fun of just messing around and discovering cool stuff.
Things that especially stand out are the boxing-matches, newspaper-delivery jobs(think a modern version of Paperboy), skateboarding, the multiplayer party-games(good for drunken saturday nights with friends, or boring tuseday nights with the family), biography-class, music-class and english-class. Panty raids. Egging the principals house. Concocting itching-powder and stinkybombs for use as weaponry. Leading your rag-tag band of nerds to victory in the dodgeball championship. This game is The Goonies, Home Alone, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and a dozen other 80's feelgood kids movies rolled into one. There was a lot of controversy around it when it got released but that had more to do with Rockstar's reputation than the actual content of the game. Seriously, this game is sweet as hell.

Oh, agreed. I never liked any of the GTAs much, but Bully was an absolute joy to play.
There's always something to do, always scope for goofing off (I can NEVER stop pulling the fire alarm in the boys' dorm :D), and the school and town are a real pleasure to explore. A lot of the missions are inspired, and I'm not bothered by how easy the game is simply because it's the most fun I've had playing anything in, well, fucking years.
Games used to have soul and personality like this. Oh, how I miss them.
(Also: props to the music. Catchy and sets the atmosphere dead fucking on.)
Side note: The Director's Cut of Dark City was damn good. Recommended if you haven't seen it yet, the new version's the best way to experience it. Far more subtle; I guess that's because the entire plot wasn't rammed down your throat right at the beginning.
The editing's more or less the same, though, so the movie still competes cut for cut with an MTV video on fast forward (which isn't completely unexpected given Proyas's background).
It didn't bother me much because I didn't notice it until someone told me. So I'm telling you. Yes, you can kill me later. :joke:

That's actually just in time for me, as this one is on offer in NI at the moment! It struck me as a Skool Daze kinda thing - I wonder if the Wii version is decent.

FYI as a result of this thread I bought SPR when I came across it in a DVD sale on the weekend. They didn't have Dark City on BR so I ended up getting Master & Commander, Pirates of the Carribbean and There Will Be Blood.
Haven't seen SPR in ages, looking forward to watching it on the new balla set-up.
