While Koki's statement is hyberbole at best, the fact remains that the game does seem to accentuate the ... er, lesser features of the original game (that being skirmish fighting, densely populated areas, and all non-atmospheric centres of the game).

It's an
FPS. Anything less than 90 is a sign of doom.

but doom was awesome! :laff:
Anyway, your rollie eyes be damned I'm going to play F3 and lament it afterwards if necessary. I've never played a bad game before and enjoyed it, nope.

Gears of War 2!
The first game's singleplayer was pretty bleh. I mean, it wasn't bad by any standards, but it really did nothing to make me want to replay it over and over. The multiplayer, on the other hand, is totally fucking awesome. It's easily the best multiplayer shooter I've ever played, and the second is looking to follow suite while toning down the ridiculous nature of the shotgun.
Mirror's Edge is looking pretty cool, obviously. I'm just hoping that it won't follow what Assasin's Creed did, where it introduces an amazing and innovative concept while totally dropping the ball on basic fundamentals of what makes a game fun.

If you had to finish a play through of Shadow of Chernobyl in about a week you'd probably end up thinking it was more combat oriented than it really is. The tone of the reviews makes me think that the faction dynamics and A-Life in general are much more developed in Clear Sky than in STALKER, but if one were to spend a year farting around you probably wouldn't have a significantly different experience than in the first game.
And the increased RPG elements make me happy. I'm looking forward to getting as attached to my weapons in Clear Sky as I did to my weapons in Deus Ex.

Lookin' forward to Fallout 3 (expectations are modest), Lego Batman (rental), Mega man 9, Left 4 Dead, Sacred 2....

Sure, but that'd be true of almost any combo FPS/RPG. If I blitzed my way through DX or SS2 I could likely draw the same conclusion, you're criticising review methodology - which I don't disagree with, by the way - and ignoring what I think are probably valid complaints about the direction the game has taken.

That's pretty much exactly what I did when the game first came out- I pounded through it in about 6 days, and I was actually
finishing the game when news of the very first patch hit.
That first playthrough, I loved it but I found it entirely too combatty, and I hated Prypiat.
On my subsequent playthroughs, taking my time, going slower (and using patches) it was a much better impression. Prypiat, for instance, was particularly interesting- there were a lot of Monolith guys there, but they were mostly based around the cultural center. I liked to get into the apartments and hotel rooms nearby, plug a few of them until they ran for cover, then lie in wait to ambush the two or three who'd try and catch me from behind once they'd figured out my position.

My point is that while the complaints may be valid, they're probably not glaringly obvious while playing under normal circumstances. Of course, I won't be able to confirm this hypothesis for a few more weeks, so it's kind of moot right now.

I'm pretty interested in Dead Space, Mirror's Edge and I am a sucker for the Need for Speed series (Didn't get Pro Street, the demo sucked), but the trailer for Undercover looks pretty neat.
