Really? For me it was only improved by 43.1% :D

...and improved immersion by a good 46%.*
*Your mileage may vary.
You know immersion. It's hard to define.

Well, Enclave Radio made me chortle.

Have played some more, and sadly it's more and more reminds of Oblivion. UI is plainly horrible (the same as Oblivion had) - it's a pain in the ass to search for some item in inventory or even check stats or map, because every time player needs to seek what he/she needs in PIP boy's hierarchy. Quests are interesting and varied, but world suffers from favorite Bethesda's copy/paste syndrome and graphics aren't great to say the least - too low-res textures. Also, too many useless items everywhere (exactly like in Oblivion), they just make it very hard to find something useful amongst them, and after a while start to annoy as hell.

Yeah, that was the other thing I didn't quite like is the fact that there are no hotkeys to the various PIP boy functions like M for map J for quests, I for inventory etc.. I know this wouldn't make sense with the immersion factor of actually "using" the PIP boy as if you were actually IN the game, so I can't exactly make up my mind if it's terrible or not. Part of me likes the lo-tech-ness of it in that respect.
On another note - anyone know if any mods are popping up yet? Not that I want to heavily modify a game I haven't completed yet - just curious.

The textures aren't low res, they just suffer from an overabundance of parallax mapping, which makes some textures look somewhat...er...chunky (I guess that's as good a word as any).
As for it being an ugly game, I find it to be quite the opposite. At times, I find it even better looking than Oblivion, or even Crysis when it comes down to it. Course, like alot of people here, I have a soft spot for post-apoc scenery. So I'm a bit biased in that reguard.
If you're playing it on a console, specifically the PS3, I can understand why you think it's ugly. The console versions look too oversaturated and are missing the subtlety of lighting the PC version has.
Hell, here's some screenshots to prove my point.

I'm finding the game to be quite a huge improvement over Oblivion. I haven't noticed much copy/pasting just yet (granted I've only clocked in 9 hours so far), and the quests and NPCs are far more lively and interesting. The UI does kinda suck, though. I'll give you that.

to get better performance, just rename the fallout3.exe to oblivion.exe, your drivers are optomized for oblivion, especially ATI, and the engines are very similar.
here's my rant:
why cant i smoke a cigarette?
using cigarettes should do +2 rad -1 health/sec and add some smoke effect in my face/camera
alcohol should decrees Radiation, haven't u played STALKER Bethesda?
why NPCs smoking cigarettes dont have smoke effects?
VATS is supposed to NOT be real time, and work.
So If i'm standing behind a tree, and press V, the chances of hitting the enemy are 90%, and I queued up all 4 shots, and all 4 of them hit the tree, that is NOT right.

I'm not gonna count that against VATS. If anything, I'll say it LIVES UP TO THE TRUE SPIRIT OF FALLOUT. Shit like that happened to me all the time in FO1 & 2.

Sounds like it worked perfectly. You were standing behind the tree, so you hit the tree.
