Yep, blur is used when you get hit and when your drugs wear off.
Depth of field is used in conversations (everything becomes blurry except the person you talk to). didn't see it used anywhere besides that.

I'm sure there'lll be highres texture mods, just like in OBLIVION. And I'm sure there'll be oblivion/fallout3 hybrid expansions prior to an official expansion.
Hell, with all the content available, fallout3: STALKER mod isnt too difficult! Just take the forests from oblivion, put raiders and mutants in them, and u got half of stalker done.

Well I caved, after seeing my friend play some more, and bought it on Steam. Overall I am enjoying myself quite a bit but there is still a lot wrong with it. Luckily I discovered a few mods that fixed some of my quibbles, mainly fixing the retardedly huge UI and removing some of the dumb UI sounds. Also the original music mod improves the experience to such a ridiculous degree it should be made law to install it! Pity there is no mod to fix the shockingly variable quality of the dialog and voice acting.
Also I don't know if I'm alone on this, but does wandering around these decimated city scapes at night remind anyone else of a somewhat forgotten classic that came from Bethesda studios many years ago?

i like the world, it feels appropriately epic.
but that's it.
the characters, writing, dialogue and story so far is sub-everything I played since, since, since .... oblivion. it's such a drag I actually played 5 hours without talking to anybody or doing any missions after enduring 2 hours in megaton talking. I mean, they really got prof. actors and writers for this ?
where can I sign up for their job ? and you know how bad my english is.
the shooting is done so bad in so many ways, I dont know where to start, they should have just concentrated on the RPG stuff and leave the whole "action" thing out because as it stands right now, some computer college kid can do better with flash.
For me the game is all about exploration and avoiding other people. when I'm done with the collection of the worst written and spoken characters in a videogame I'm gonna blow up Megaton. Actually, I decided to play another session in paralell and be an asshole from the beginning because this game and humanity are not ready for a proper playthrough until Fallout4 is being done by CD-Proj. RED or Bethesda just gives up and gets bought by the Pebble devs.
until then I enjoy playing GoogleMaps&StreetView:elseworlds
except when I get my occasional CTD.
I can't understand the high review scores for this.
the world is all upside down.
I thought I'm gonna be the only one liking Fallout3 (looked interesting from the beginning) and the only one hating Left4Dead.
After I played both I have to say:
- LEFT4DEAD is DOOM incarnate
(which means I love it as much as I can love a totally brainless noskill shooter)
- FO3 is an unfinished design project by an school dropout

From what I've played so far I'd have to say you're being overly harsh on the quality of the writing and the voice acting, mothra.

Seconded.

Built in 2003. Athlon XP 2500+ CPU, 2 gigs of RAM. Currently has an AGP Radeon X1950 Pro installed. It's been the steady offloading of more and more processing duties to the video card in modern games that's allowed it to remain a viable gaming rig for this long. STALKER actually runs more smoothly for me than some recent Thief FMs.
Wow, I am surprised. I have a 2600+ Athlon, 1.5 gigs of ram and a 9800 PRO. Is the X1950 Pro AGP? Would it be a viable upgrade for me?

You can pick up a better AGP card than that. ATI made Radeons in AGP flavors all the way up HD3x line. Dunno how well they perform compared to the PCI-E cards, but they're dirt cheap.
