I'm liking this game more and more.
17th level already, 11 quests accomplished (no main quest line), 43 areas discovered and explored :) The game seems quite overwhelming and even a bit discouraging from the start (because of its size) , but once you get its feel, game mechanics, and learn its main landmarks, you pretty much just can't stop playing it. Combat is fun and force player to use skills/right equipment on higher difficulties, enemies are varied and excellently designed, the world is lively, very detailed and full of tricks, side quests, and hidden opportunities.

I'm starting to get a little bored with this game now. The fact that the environment is great fun to explore is pretty much the only thing keeping me going. It's lucky I like exploring so much!
The half-ass nature of the dialog is really starting to bring the game down. Not so much in terms of writing and acting, which is pretty poor, but the fact you don't really have conversations with anyone. It's mostly just pick a question and return to the main dialog tree. You end up persuading/manipulating people with one lamely written line, a good example being with the "super heros" quest in Canterbury Commons. Remember the conversation with 'The Master' as the end of Fallout and how it took more than one line to convince him that his plan was flawed? The goddamn [WIN!] brackets on the additional dialog options are annoying too. I haven't finished the game yet so maybe this will be rectified later but why the hell can't I talk to some Raiders or Mutants? Have these two groups just become cannon fodder?

There is exactly 1 supermutant in the game you can have a conversation, and he's there primarily to completely fuck the ending's emotional impact.
Yeah, they're fodder.

I'm surprised at the number of people talking about crashes etc. Is it really that bad? I only ask because I haven't experienced a single one yet.

I experienced 2 during 60hrs.

I've had quite a few, though they seriously reduced in number after an update to the latest nVidia drivers.

Also, may I say CONGRATULATIONS to Bethesda for (a) having more than one type of Irish accent in the game and (b) having the American who's doing the second one I've come across actually make a friggin' effort and not go all 'begorrah' on us.
Seriously though they should stop hiring Hollywood celebrity actors whom phone in their performances and put that money to far better use. Eg hiring animators that aren't stuck in 2000/2001. Jesus Christ, the animation in Fallout 3 feels like it was cut and pasted from Deus Ex at times.

Um, I'm actually perplexed why people say that about FO3 animations. I
hated Deus Ex animations, and being a fan of motion-captured animations I don't see anything particularly wrong with animations in FO3, they seem fine to me, quite natural.

Yeah, if I remember right, the NPC walking animations, etc, are okay (the ones you see all the time), but for things like sitting down in a chair, or especially climbing into the simulator pod in Vault 112, the animation is constructed with this linear, "connect the dots" mentality that just looks completely wrong. I had to put on my squint goggles when I climbed into the simulator pod.
Also other things, like NPC's lying down and getting back up, just isn't good, if I'm remembering right.

The animations are truly awful, the game is unplayable in third person because of how you'll look. It's a limitation with their motion engine i believe.
