Not particular screens, particular subsections of the pipboy. F1 opens the character section, but not necessarily to point you want to actually go to, so getting to something like Aid or Equipment often takes a minimum of 2 clicks.
It's annoying because it's something pretty much standard on PC Rpgs to have direct to screen hotkeys, and there are plenty of keys left.
You can't really hotkey each of the 15 total Pipboy pages, obviously, but a few extras would've been a great improvement. It's quite a given that F2 does its job, as its entire tab is dedicated to Inventory, but it would've been very nice if I didn't have to constantly click my way between Local Map, World Map and Quest Log. Especially when so many F keys are available.

The numpad is more or less unused, could fit them all in there. Though, really, it's not that I care if most of them are hotkeyed or not, I'd just like the option to hotkey the ones I actually use.
And a HUD local map, as an option, couldn't hurt. Even if it's limited to certain armor where it makes sense.

Leaving the Vault is one of the key moments - and most affecting ones - in this game. And a moment like this is very important in a game called Fallout anyway. If Fallout 1 was made in 3D few years later, it would have pretty much similar moment. Similarity with leaving the initial dungeon in Oblivion is a coincidence, but a justified one.
In fact I think people who didn't play Oblivion have chance to enjoy F3 slightly more as they can't make any negative connections. :cheeky:
I just started playing FO3 and this is my first Bethesda game. I have to admit the vault was a pretty nice way to do a training level.
But I'm finding it hard to stay interested. The environments are great, but otherwise it seems a bit shallow and unsatisfying. I'm afraid it might be too much of a sandbox game for me.

Well, I finally got to the museum.
I'm starting to lean towards liking the game again. This place is fasinating with a ton of stuff to read, some of it pertinent to the quest and some just there for humor. Seems like there are several side quests in this place itself which is nice as well.
I'm a hurting puppy though. I've found the safe where I believe there are some nice goodies, but need a key and have yet to find any bubbler or water source to gain any hit points. I've got enough stimpacks, but although they heal specific body parts, they don't raise your health. I may have to use one of my 2 stealth thingys, to get myself out of this mess which sucks because I wanted to save them. Still though a fun place.
Combat seems to be getting a bit repetitive, but I suppose that's in pretty much every game you play. You have to give Beth credit though. Although I'm not into sandbox games all that much and personally found both Morrowind and Oblivion way overhyped, did play both for over 30 hrs before getting bored and giving up on them. And in todays market if you get 15 hrs out of a game you're doing well, so you do get a lot bang for your buck. I've already put a good 12 or 14 hrs into this one, so gotten my moneys worth already. Plus it seems as though I've yet to scratch the surface of what the whole game offers.
Question though for people further along than me. I've heard if you pursue the main quest to early, it's game over. I would think there's more to the main quest than where I am now but don't want to see a "game over" screen to early.

Yeah, they do. Just don't use them on the Status screen, but on the Aid screen. Or simply bind them to a number key and press the key whenever you need a health boost.

Well I feel like a dumbass. :wot:
Thank you.

You can also heal HP on the Aid page if you click where it displays how many you've got left.

20th level, lots of areas explored, main quest leads me to Rivet City, and I'm ultimately bored with this game.
I just have no incentive to continue anymore, extensive use of copy-paste (90% of the interiors really look and feel the same, as well as have same challenges, exteriors also could be more diversified), loads and loads of items everywhere that player needs to check if he/she wants to get bonuses or side quests (exceptionally wearying chore) kill this otherwise excellent game for me. I got the "mapper" ability, so the world map now shows lots of areas (more than 50%) I haven't visited yet, but I've lost any interest to visit them because I know they all will be pretty similar to places I already explored.
I would like to know if anyone managed to explore 100% of this game and didn't bore himself to death.
This game (as well as most of Bethesda's games) really should be, let's say, 3-5 times lesser in size, but more diversified in terms of map design instead, IMO.

I missed only two locations with my exploring character.
And I had fun. But then again, I like exploring and discovering the little unspoken stories, and this game has a lot of those...

I think we all do, but having to wade through countless super mutants, dying with the same slow-motion head shot, and cut and pasted metro stations to get to the great bits is just too much for some especially with the story being so unengaging.
I've stopped playing this now and won't be picking it up again until some mods come out to rectify some of the problems.
