If it were a hardware issue then why don't I have trouble with other games?
And unfortunately I do have the latest drivers. :/

This is somewhat of a dumb are-you-a-noob-or-wut question here, and you'll probably hate me for asking it, but how do you have your page file set? There have been a few times I've forgotten to give it a fixed size after a format, and it's given me nothing but hell and headaches until I set it properly.
I've noticed over the years that you seem to experience more than your average share of CTD issues. Figure I might offer up a basic solution alot of people seem to overlook to help you out.

I'm not sure where you got that impression. FO3's the only game that CTDs repeatedly in recent memory. Well that and every Unreal 3 engine game under the sun.

for fucks sake can we do something about this behemoth of a thread?

To find out more about your spontaneous reboots, the Event Log is a good place to start, as it usually provides a link to a Microsoft tech help page detailing what the error means.
Right click My Computer, choose Manage, expand Event Viewer, then check out the System log. If it is a problem with Fallout 3 itself, there may be something listed in the Application log.
Reboots and bluescreens are usually signified by a red stop sign while CTDs and other such problems display a yellow hazard sign.

Plenty of red stop signs in both System and Applications. And no tech help page.

Might be an idea to take this to T&T instead of derailing Gen Gaming.
Having said that, do they provide error codes?
These can be tapped into Google and reliably come up with some form of helpful suggestion; for example, 1000007e is generally related to memory issues.

Overheating, flaky memory, underpowered PSU, flaky PSU, damaged component, break in your motherboard, lose contacts, something like that.
My previous PC, a P2 400Mhz, was giving me hell with spontaneous reboots and refusal to boot, for about 2 years. It had periods of normal operation interlaced with periods of crasher and stubborn silence. And I never found what's the source of the problem until one day it gave up, shut down and never booted again. Oh well. So I'm glad my current one had no single serious issue in last 3 years. I was just lucky to buy flawless components I guess. I sweated out my nerves over that P2, so I deserve some peace now dammit!

Fallout 3 shipped with a broken version of the GfW Live redistributable.
Oh that's just perfect. And this thing was supposed to provide more comfort for gamers. Thank you again Microsoft for making our lives more difficult.

Yeah, we should have had Fallout Forum weeks ago. :p

Back to the game... after Power of the Atom and Tenpenny Tower quests, again I managed to botch another one.
I was exploring western part of the map, stumbled upon Smith Casey's Garage and thus I found Vault 112 at the beginning of Scientific Pursuits, without even visiting Rivet City. So I missed some important information there. Been through Tranquility Lane, saved father and had options to ask him about Project Purity and things I really shouldn't know at this point. Unfortunately I have no older save left before Scientific Pursuits quest has been updated, but I have one before I entered Tranquility Lane simulator, so I can try to go to Rivet city and see if I can fill the knowledge black hole there... although I don't count on it.
Shouldn't they restrict access to Vault 112 somehow until you complete Scientific Pursuits, like I don't know... it's logical you would need to obtain proper access code to Vault 112 from some source, right? Or some other kind of warning you shouldn't go where you don't have to be at that point of the game.
Shit. This is one of the disadvantages of exploration on your own. :erg:

Meh, it kinda makes sense since all you want at this point is to find where your father is. Everything along the way just provides clues on how to find him, so I mean, you stumble upon him out in the wilderness, that should work, congrats, you found him. There's not a ton you missed that you can't go back and do. I'll bet a lot of people miss the GNR bit as natural exploration is gonna lead you to Rivet city at some point (the big ole' metropolis of the wasteland), at least that's what happened to me.
