I love The Glow, it's the most atmospheric place in the game, also thanks to that eerie ambient theme. I usually loot as much as I and companions can carry, it's full of tasty treasures. No matter all that stuff is irradiated. :p

How goes the campaign, Scots? Just curious.

Totally lost interest sadly! I'm still at the savegame pre-Harry-onslaught.
To be fair, I've had a lot on lately and have been busy researching blu-ray/hdtvs in my spare time for an upcoming purchase.
I'll probably get back to it, however I think Fallout 3 looks more my kind of game. Hopefully it can manage half the atmosphere of STALKER with half the world building of the original Fallout while being its own game that delivers a unique experience. (Fallout may join STALKER in the legion of games I'd like to finish if only I liked them more)

Fallout 1 actually isn't too long at all, for an open RPG, even including all sidequests. 2nd is bigger. It normally took me about 2 weeks of intense playing to finish F1. You can roam the wasteland to earn two or three more levels, but it's not necessary. I estimate you're now somewhere in 1/3 of the game. You waste more time travelling by foot in Stalker, but that's why people like on it.

Sorry if this would be considered derailment, but I scored Fallout off Ebay a week ago and am now playing it (Surprisingly, it works on Vista). I'm in the second Vault, but it seems I need a rope to get down. Where would I find one?
Also the guy guarding the town has one for barter.

There's also one in a bookshelf somewhere in Shady Sands.

Ok, just downloaded this from GameTap and started playing it. I can see why people love it, it's atmospheric as hell and the sense of exploration is great. It is, however, very challenging and it doesn't feel very user-friendly. Hell, it feels like you need a strategy guide right from the start. One problem that I encountered early on was when I traded goods the first time. I stacked up a bunch of stuff I wanted to sell, saw the value-count filling up, 500 dollars would I get for this stuff, so I clicked the "offer" button and the deal went through without any indication from the buyer that anything was wierd. It wasn't until afterwards when I tried to rent a hotelroom that I noticed anything was wrong, I didn't have any money! I hadn't gotten any money for the sale. It wasn't until after a bit of experimentation later that I realized that you actually have to drag the money from the sellers list and fill up how much you want for your stuff. Like, whaaat the fuuuuuCKKKK? Can't the game just calculate that shit for you? Seriously, that shit almost made me give up on the game, especially as I didn't have a savegame before it.
Oh oh! Also, Killian or whatshisname offers me whaaateeeever I want from his storage in return for killing Gizmo and I see he has a Desert Eagle that I want so I agree but then afterwards I dont get to choose the deagle at all, just some other crap.
Anyway, I'm glad I stuck with it because it gets kinda interesting further on. I've been wandering aimlessly around the countryside for days through so I don't know if I'll find that thingymabob in time.

Well back in the times when games came in boxes you had manuals for that kind of thing.

And the Fallout manual is amazing btw.
