I might be asking something obvious here but... who usually organizes these contests? Because it seems to me like the ideas are all here and now we just need somebody to pick it up and get it started.

I suggest to modify it a bit.
a list per contestant of 20 words. Contestants do not know how are the list and must give a number that will correspond to a line.
And they must announce what they want to do with it.
They might announce 5 numbers.
Ex:
I choose the number 5 as a theme.
7 as a secondary objective
20 as a primary goal
13 must be present
and 1 mentionned.
Then, if we imagine a result according to his list:
5 = Teddy Bear
7 = Barrel
20 = Flower
13 = Guard
1 = Karras
Then, he must do a mission themed with Teddy Bear.
A seconde goal must be related with a barrel
The main goal to a flower
a guard must be present
and Karras must be mentionned ;)
I can lead the contest if you wants to. It might be not so hard to do.

There really isn't a "usual" organizer. Brethren has organized quite a few and is probably a little burned out by now. :D Just whoever decides they want to do it and volunteers. But there first needs to be enough interest and an agreed upon theme.

It's not so much that I'm burned out, it's got more to do with giving someone else the chance to run a contest.
@FireMage - you can never be sure who and how many people are interested. Sometimes if you have a good idea, you just need to run with it and give it a shot.

I just skimmed this thread and would like to propose another idea that I like, but haven't seen discussed here yet. Somebody should build a base FM with a starting room, be it an actual room, a cave, a city square or what have you, and all contestants would use it to build a mission, only nobody would get to change anything of what's already built in at the starting point (or room).
Maybe drop the player into an already tense situation at the very start, like having someone outside about to break in the door - how does Garrett escape, what happens next, where is he anyway and why is he being chased? - all left up to the FM author. I think that would make for a very interesting competition for authors and players alike.
