could have to do with the particle effects near the windows, no else reported it during testing, so i'm a bit stumped, i know that i have framerate issues in evil never dies that i'm trying to work out.

 After entering the code to turn off the gas and pushing the button, the on/off switch at the other end will not work. I have the correct code.
Do the up/down switches number horizontally or vertically?
It seems I have tried both ways without any results.

this puzzle presents problems for a lot of people and i can't figure out why, its liking reading a book, left to right top to bottom. further, the switches are labeled and you are told which switch to flip in which order.
LAYOUT
1) the outdoor vent, 2) the tank outlet valve 3) the tank mixer valve
4) the chamber inlet valve 5) the master bypass valve 6)the gas shunt valve.
ORDER
1) gas shunt valve, 2) chamber inlet valve, 3) tank outlet valve, 4) outdoor vent, 5) tank mixer, 6) master bypass valve.
OR
the first switch is the gas shunt valve, the lower right lever
second, chamber inlet valve, lower left lever
third, tank outlet valve, upper center lever
fourth, outdoor vent, upper left lever
fifth, is tank mixer, upper right lever
sixth, is master bypass valve, lower center lever
now if you freak out and start flipping switches willy-nilly the whole problem becomes intractable and you'll have to go back to a save before this spot unless you can work out the exact order you flipped all the switches in and reverse that order exactly.

This is a great FM :thumb: It was not too difficult (since I played earlier in version 3.0) and there were still plenty of interesting things to do in the mission. I really enjoyed playing it. I updated news on (
http://darkfate.ru/index.cgi) darkfate site for russians taffers. I think, this mission the best in categories (type) "police station".
Thanks, Ottoj55!

Thank you Ottoj55 for the in depth response. If I don't succeed this time, I'm not as proficient a taffer as I thought I was. :ebil:

Ottoj55...got your new version the other day and have finally the chance to play it again. There's a couple of things however that seem to be different. I have been through most of the building...but a couple of places have me confused.
When I went down into the steam tunnels...there are mainly two lights for sure that I can tell are on. Blue and yellow..green is out and not sure about the two goldish ones (they seem to be out). Then the wiring picture isn't really helping me much either. I can't seem to find the scroll that tells you which ones to cut.

I can't seem to find Toolchest either and I've only found book 2. I have read in the thread where the third book can be found (Dungeon) but for the life of me I cannot find book 1? Also, although there's no sign...I believe the records room is to be found in the Patrol room, is that correct? Couldn't figure out how to get one of the grates in the wall to open...they didn't highlight to frob?
Playing "Hard" mode. Thank you. :)
Ottoj55 on 30/1/2007 at 14:03
the tool chest model is likely been changed to a foot locker, should be in the boiler room, the records room is above the holding cells. and the book you want is likely in the records room. try the walkthrough (
http://www.jasonotto.net/missions/debt/adebtrepaidwalkthrough.txt) none of the grates will open by frobbing, all are controlled by a switch, which grate is it?
The Fire Eater on 30/1/2007 at 21:41
Thanks for the walkthru link. Yes that will certainly help. Can't understand how I missed that room...as I have been going around and around trying to find something..anything that I might have missed to no avail. :nono: I shall go in again and try to get the rest done now. :)
The mission looks very nice and looking forward to Part 2. How's it coming along? Good Luck and happy DromEd'g :D
UPDATE: I have now finished and I must say it played soooo much better for me. Got Garrett out with your diagram earlier in this thread with no problem :) I got him out via the Vault opening and walked around the sewer pipes to the other side..then I thought...oh oh I forgot to burn books :D So I left him there and went back up the way I got in and whisked around trying to remember the right way! Hurrying cause I was afraid he might die on me...LOL...so in my panic trying to get there and back I had to run around a bit like a chicken with my head cut off! So I pick him back up and one objective clicked off...checked my Log and Escape was still open. Confused a bit and wondered where am I supposed to get to...then where we were..I took about one step forward and Mission Complete gave me a welcomed ding. Thank you Ottoj55 for redoing and was well worth the replay and actually completing this time too! :) Onward to the continuation of this interesting but complex gaming...just not too complex please? :D

glad you finished up. part two as it were, evil never dies is coming along nicely, though i might enter a contest soon and put it on hold for a bit.

I really enjoyed this mission, Ottoj55. Thanks very much for making it.
I thought the puzzles were quite good. The readables helped with solving them and also provided clues as to what to do while staying within the story. I liked the level layout - it felt so big (good thing there was a map - I'd have taken much longer to get through the game because I wouldn't have remembered where any rooms were). There were areas I never went to (all the "outside the station" areas. And I had a great time looking for secret passages.
My only problems in the game were that it took me a really long time to find the
stairs under which was the switch that "opened" the picture of Truart.
and I could never figure out how to use the gas bombs. When I would throw them, they'd just land and do nothing. On occasion they would stick "in the air".
