Why don't you use the doors on the upper floor? :confused:
Maybe you haven't noticed: most of the doors which were initially locked are unlocked by now.

I must be really dumb because i have been there and did just get another objective, and read some books, nothing else. Usually i don´t give up on a mission but this is getting more annoying then Cryptic Cravings, and i did get that one finished at last;)

[spoiler]I don't remember if it happens on hard difficulty, but there might be somebody walking the mansion with a key on his belt now, otherwise check the desk in the office on the top floor. Your target is Mr. Cripplewood's bedroom key or a key to a window on the catwalk outside. Then start searching the guestrooms.[/spoiler]
